Pope Convokes World-Wide Meeting of Bishops on Abuse Crisis

All the presidents of the world's bishops conferences will meet in February 2019

Pope Francis has called for all the presidents of the Catholic bishops’ conferences of the world to meet at the Vatican in February to discuss the issue of sexual abuse of minors.

A statement from the pope’s cardinal advisory board Sept. 12 said, “The Holy Father Francis, hearing the Council of Cardinals, decided to convene a meeting with the Presidents of the Bishops Conferences of the Catholic Church on the theme of ‘protection of minors.’”

The summit will take place at the Vatican Feb. 21-24, 2019.

According to the website GCatholic, there are 114 Conferences of Bishops and 21 eastern-rite Patriarchal Synods, Councils of Churches, and Assemblies of Ordinaries.

The announcement followed a three-day session of Pope Francis’ Council of Cardinals, commonly called the “C9,” which he created in 2013 to advise him regarding the governance and reform of the Roman Curia.

A major task of the nine cardinals has been revising the 1988 apostolic constitution, Pastor bonus, which regulates the government of the Roman Curia.

In their latest session Sept. 10-12, the Council made final adjustments to the draft of the new constitution, tentatively titled Praedicate evangelium, before turning it over to Pope Francis. It will still undergo a stylistic revision and review of the canonical elements before being published, the Vatican said.

If he stays, he’ll have a no-show Lame Duck papacy, that’s for sure. We pay him no nevermind.

What a damned joke. That reminds me of the Gambino family meetings.

See, the focus on here is “abuse of minors.” A huge part of the problem is sexual misbehavior of clergy that involves ADULTS, some of them consenting. The overall attitude of laxity toward priests engaging in homosexual acts is 80% of the problem and is how Mccarrick happened.

Why wait until Feb of next year? How about next week? Something more important going on now or just time to get all the stories “straight”? Ugh. In the meantime, I’ll be starting teaching a year 2 Confirmation class next week and I’m sure there will be lots of questions. Glad Joan of Arc is one of my hero Saints. :)

Pope Francis should be gone by the, purge homosexuals, convene in February to celebrate saving the church. If not, my vote at home will be to stop taking our kids to church.

Sex abuse by the clergy has been going on for centuries.

Making a big todo about it now may be part of the plan to normalize it.

Why wait until Feb of next year?

So it's the next Pope's problem? (What do I win?)

He’s betting on the changes in world’s political/economical avenues to take the heat away from the abuse and then it quietly does what it’s always done...sweep it all under the rug.

I’m Catholic. I was an altar boy. I went to Catholic school. I want these pieces of shiite to be in prison. We will not get our church back until it happens. It is far past the time to be dealt with. I was never abused, but there was a priest in our parish that had to be sent elsewhere for a inappropriate behavior with the young boys.

I can only imagine that this priest was the victim of some other priest in his past. This needs to be adjudicated and over. Let the chips fall where they may just like in our government. It is time for accountability in both.

The Pope fails to grasp that this is a homosexual problem within the Church and many of those bishops he is summoning enabled it, covered it up or were part of it. The sexual abuse of children is only one part of this sordid problem.

Our pastor wrote a letter on the backside of a mealy mouth address inserted in bulletin by our bishop.

If you see anything call law enforcement.
