44,000 Catholic Women Demand Answers From Pope Francis Over Sex Abuse Crisis (HuffPo??!!)

More than 44,000 Catholic women have signed a letter pressing Pope Francis to explain exactly when and how he found out about sexual abuse and misconduct allegations against a high-ranking former cardinal.

“Our hearts are broken, our faith tested, by the escalating crisis engulfing our beloved Church,” states the passionately worded letter organized by the Catholic Women’s Forum. “We are angry, betrayed and disillusioned.”

Although the Vatican has known about his allegedly abusive behavior with seminarians since at least 2000, McCarrick received clerical promotions and continued publicly representing the church, The Associated Press reports.

Soon after Vigano’s allegations came to light, Francis told reporters that he would “not say a single word” on the subject and suggested that journalists read Vigano’s claims and make up their own minds.

Thousands of Catholic women want better answers from Pope Francis.

Signers include prominent female American Catholic theologians, professors, business executives, writers and speakers.

The women’s letter has already been sent to the pope twice, through personal channels and through the apostolic nuncio in Washington, D.C. Hasson said that as long as the number of signatures continues to swell, they will continue to send it to Francis weekly.

The women’s letter reminds the pope that they “are not second-class Catholics to be brushed off while bishops and cardinals handle matters privately.”

Fifty-four percent of American Catholics are women, according to the Pew Research Center. Catholic women are more likely than men to say they attend Mass at least once a week (43 percent vs. 35 percent) and more likely to say they pray every day (67 percent vs. 49 percent).

The one good thing I will say about the current crisis is that the dam has broken as to the outrage from those of us sitting in the pews. In the 2002 time frame, there was a “let’s give the Magisterium a chance” attitude but not now.

Totally agree. But I think the word you're looking for is "the hierarchy," not "the Magisterium." Magisterium means teaching authority, and on this subject it's not their teaching (doctrine) that's faulty, but their practice (what they do!)

I believe these women are not truly interested in helping those victims or of clearing the Catholic Church of the homosexuals. Rather, they are interested in taking the Catholic Church completely out of the political/economical games because of...drumroll, please... ABORTION. The Catholic Church for all it’s perversity in the homosexual/lesbian/pedophile avenues is still a major fighter against Abortion. Not that Abortion, as traditionally viewed in the Catholic Church is bad... it’s more or less a way to get monies, plenty of monies, from those who still sit in the pews and open up their wallets. Get rid of the Catholic Church or greatly diminish it’s power and watch how much vile the Abortion agenda gets... and make no mistake...there is a wave of people ready to classify Abortion to a few hours or days after birth...

I understand your believing that of my opinion. Doesn’t change the facts that women, as a whole, could have stopped this homosexual/lesbian/pedophile movement in the Catholic Church decades ago. Women are the forgers of tomorrow’s youth as we’ve all seen, throughout history. Women cannot claim to be both victims and victors without carrying the price for what they neglect to accomplish.
