‘Elitist, Clericalist’ Church Allows Abuse to Thrive, Pope Says

ROME - Sexual and physical abuse by priests and religious and the scandal of its cover-up by Church authorities thrive in countries where the Catholic Church is “elitist and clericalist,” Pope Francis told Jesuits in Ireland in August.

“There is something I have understood with great clarity: this drama of abuse, especially when it is widespread and gives great scandal - think of Chile, here in Ireland or in the United States - has behind it a Church that is elitist and clericalist, an inability to be near to the people of God,” the pope told the Jesuits during a meeting Aug. 25 in Dublin.

As is customary when the pope meets Jesuits during a foreign trip, a transcript of his remarks to the 63 Jesuits he met in Ireland was published by the Jesuit journal La Civilta Cattolica after the pope had approved the text; it was released Sept. 13.

Francis met the Jesuits in Dublin immediately after meeting eight people who had survived abuse at the hands of priests or in schools, mother and baby homes or other institutions operated by the Church or Catholic religious orders.

“I didn’t know that in Ireland there were also cases where unmarried women had their children taken away from them,” the pope told the Jesuits, referring to the practice at many homes for unwed mothers. “Hearing this particularly touched my heart,” he said.

Yes. He is not wrong about the sin of elitism and clericalism in the church, any and all churches.

Sorry, I find it unbelievable he was unaware of children being taken from their mothers and adopted out.

Any priest who's been in the church for as long as many of these priest have, knew about the child abuse and gay sex problems in the church a long time ago. That doesn't mean they were personally involved, but they knew that element exist in the church a long time ago. The church attracted a lot of religious men with homosexual urges from the beginning, and there's nothing wrong with that in theory, but it turned into a secret society for gay sex at some point.

What we conclude is that the he refuses to acknowledge this is a homosexual problem, more than a child predator problem.

It would be easy to stop and prosecute the relatively small number of priests abusing minor girls, if there were not the overarching problem of active homosexual clergy.

Exactly. He pointed to Archbishop Chaput as an example of “clericalism,” the other hate word he likes to use. Just like every other liberal, he uses exactly the words that describe himself. It bears comparison to the attack on Donald Trump for “colluding with Russia,” when the evidence shows that Hilary Clinton, John Podesta and Robert Mueller are fine examples of real collusion with Russia.

If Pope Francis made this statement to all Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, Priests and Deacons worldwide, it would have some meaning.

Ireland currently being in the spotlight is just luck of the draw.

He’s saying the church scandals are the result of the church not being leftist and gay enough. He’s doubling down.

Basically, the Pope is blaming the faithful and devout priests and lay people of the Catholic Church for the behavior of the Sodomite pedophiles who have infiltrated the Church to do opt it for their agenda

This Pope is clever with words he uses to cover for pure evil

Of course, we all know that Bergoglio would never label his fellow Leftists in the priesthood as “Elitists”.

As Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Abp. Bergoglio (now Pope Francis) stonewalled abuse victims in his own diocese. And he's maintained silence about it --- or denied it --- to this day.

The Pope misses the point, it is the Church’s tolerance, enabling and covering up of homosexuality that has rotted the faith

This is funny! The Roman Catholic church at its very core is “elitist and clericalist”. This is precisely what it is !!

I believe a tenet of Marxism is to blame your opposition with the very thing you are guilty of.

That Pope has some chutzpah!
