Let me start by saying there's a whole lot I don't know about Spain. I'm interested in Spain but quite ignorant.

It is a great mystery to me why Spain took this hard turn to the Left. Franco wasn't great, but you have to say "Compared to what?" Compared to the Left he was benign. For ~35 years --- 1939 - 1975 --- it was possible to live a good, normal life in Spain: to work, to marry, to have a family, to live as a Catholic.

Work, Faith, and Family is 95% of most people's lives, and if that's good, you've got a good life.

But -- I don't know, but as some have told me --- it really went to hell after Franco's death. They became ashamed of much that was good, and envious of much that was bad. They ran, red-faced for decades to "catch up" with decadent "Europe". Closed churches. Birthrate plunged as low as Sweden. Total fertility rate under 1.2 children born/woman , that is, demographic suicide. Female media age approaching menopause. Welcome Muslims.

The important thing is to BE the Church, because it is to Her that Christ gave his promises. He regards the Church as His bride. He is rescuing her. You want to be there when He does.

You want to defend the Bride.

The Church is not for consumers; it is for warriors. The Church has been in crisis before over the last 2000 years ("All times are dangerous times" - St. Teresa of Avila) and how does God deal with this? Each and every time, he deals with it by raising up saints.

You in? That could be you.

Buddy up with the best Catholics you can find, stick with them, and live the Sacramental life. This is God's will for your well-being and redemption.

The relationship of the church and Spain is interesting. The Vatican supported Franco. Many Catholics in Ireland did not.

Of course, Ireland and Spain did have an interesting history. They were friends for centuries, and there was a healthy (illegal) trading history between the two countries. Allegedly there was a history of support of the IRA by the Spanish much later. Allegedly weapons and ammunition.

Here is a story about the Irish support of the Spanish against Franco. Listen to the song and to the names of those Irish who died.

“Tommy Woods aged 17 died in Cordoba.” That line in the song stops me every time I hear it.
