Spanish bishop sees Pope as threat to Catholic doctrine

September 28, 2018

» Continue to this story on El Diario (Spanish)

CWN Editor's Note: A Spanish bishop has voiced public criticism of Pope Francis, saying that under his leadership Catholicism is in danger of becoming “a Church without a doctrine.” Bishop Juan Antonio Reig Pia made the remarks as he introduced a new book by the late Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, one of the four cardinals who signed the dubia.

It was past time to hear one bishop speak what all faithful know is truth in their heart, head and crying soul. Where are the others?

This bishop will have his head on a platter. One bishop. Across the globe, only one.

The pope came here to transform the Catholic Church....in the same sense Obama came here to transform America.

How'd that work out for you? Happy with it so far?

"A Spanish diocese has rejected a request by the city government to have Bishop Juan Antonio Reig Pla transferred due to a controversial Good Friday sermon that critics have labeled as 'homophobic.'. . As part of a larger cultural critique of sexual behavior in modern society, he lamented how some with same-sex attraction 'corrupt and prostitute themselves or go to gay night clubs' in order to 'validate' their struggle. 'I assure you what they encounter is pure hell,' he said on April 6. In response to the bishop, Socialist Party spokesman Javier Rodriguez said his comments have put him as well as the diocese 'on the homophobic map.'" Mons. Reig Pla is probably the best bishop in Spain (although there are a couple of other very good ones, appointed under BXVI). He is orthodox, an extremely good writer and speaker, and a very kind and dedicated shepherd. I met him once at a conference in Alcala de Henares.

This is a university city and he’s been under attack there for years. Also, the lay faithful were very badly formed by their prior bishop and many of them are pro-gay, pro-transgender, anti-family, pro-wacky feminist “modern Catholics,” whose main goal in life is to conform to all the teachings of the anti-Christian Socialist Party or its more radical offshoots. So he has had to work very hard and fight very hard to do his job. But he just sticks with it and is a very heroic shepherd, in my mind. I wish we had one of his like in the US!

Any attempts to close the barn door now will result in orthodox clergy (the few remaining) at odds with completely unchurched congregations (what remains of them).

A Spanish bishop has voiced public criticism of Pope Francis, saying that under his [the pope's] leadership Catholicism is in danger of becoming “a Church without a doctrine.”

Anyone with true sensus catholicus can see the obvious contradiction and impossibility here.
