Abp. John Wester announces bankruptcy plan one day after police raid offices for sex abuse evidence

SANTA FE, N.M. (ChurchMilitant.com) - The Santa Fe archdiocese announced it is filing for bankruptcy just one day after law enforcement raided the chancery.

On Wednesday, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas executed search warrants on the Santa Fe archdiocese's offices to find documents relating to charges of sex abuse.

The attorney general was looking for documents on two former priests, Marvin Archuleta and Sabine Griego, who have been accused of sexually abusing minors. The two men are on the archdiocese's list of "credibly accused" priests, deacons and religious that came out in September 2017.

The search warrants were based on testimonies from anonymous sources who claimed the archdiocese was pressuring sex abuse victims into silence — for example, by threatening to stop paying for their therapy.

Griego was barred from ministry in 1993. The Vatican laicized him in 2005 at the request of Abp. Michael Sheehan. He is thought to have abused more than 30 children.

Child sex abuse accusations against Archuleta, meanwhile, started coming forward in the 1990s. A member of the religious order Sons of the Holy Family, Archuleta was supposedly removed from public ministry and assigned to internal work for the archdiocese. But on Palm Sunday in 2002, ABC News found him working as a priest across the border in Mexico City. Archuleta's current whereabouts are unknown.

All funds/assets were transferred out once they knew the heat was on.

The prosecutors need to look back 5 years on their books. Where they see large transfers, they need to find out who approved them, and identify the reason under oath.

Spiritually you are correct, however, in the real world even they incur expenses. Bankruptcy is the legal form of dealing with those financial obligations that cannot be satisfied, but then you knew that. 8>)

The Catholic Church is still here. It is not destroyed.

I hope the authorities show this same zeal when investigating credible allegations against public school teachers.

Parents pay money to send their kids to parochial schools built with their dollars, hospital, charities, buildings all add up to assets that can be confiscated under bankruptcy laws.

The Latin Church is imploding while pedophiles protect their world.

BALLARAT, Australia — Rob Walsh was outside Melbourne Magistrates’ Court recently awaiting a pretrial hearing for Cardinal George Pell, the Vatican’s third-highest-ranking official, when, he said, he unexpectedly walked into the cardinal himself.

The scale of the abuse in Ballarat was staggering. Gerald Ridsdale, the former chaplain of St. Alipius Primary School in Ballarat, was imprisoned for sexually abusing 65 children from the early 1960s to late 1980s. He was only one of several priests convicted of abusing children.

About 45 victims were estimated to have committed suicide, prompting an outpouring of grief from once devout Catholic parents who said the church robbed them of their sons. Today, survivors speak of broken marriages, children being raised without fathers, lives spent in a haze of drugs and alcohol or in and out of institutional care. What happened here is often likened to a big black cloud hanging over the city that has never fully lifted.

https://catholicherald.co.uk/news/2018/05/15/prosecutors-want-media-blackout-for-cardinal-pell-trial/

Prosecutors have sought a blanket ban on media coverage of the trial of Cardinal George Pell for alleged historic sexual offences. The cardinal’s case returns to Victoria County Court in Melbourne on Wednesday, when the judge is likely to rule on a media ban. Prosecutors have applied for an injunction to suppress “any report of the whole or any part of these proceedings and any information derived from this proceeding and any court documents associated with this proceeding”.

They made the application to “prevent a real and substantial risk of prejudice to the proper administration of justice” due to concerns that the intense publicity surrounding the case will mean the cardinal may not get a fair trial.

One can't help but wonder how much child abuse by predator priests is a factor that has contributed to the breakdown of societal norms. The Church has NO legitimate moral authority to speak against perversion.

It's hard to grasp that (1) there are still situations that haven't been dealt with and (2) Pope Francis, who is not a voice for going back to a Church that embraces traditional Christian values, could have been chosen.

This contributed greatly to the breakdown of social norms; the clergy had an understanding with the laiety that they would ignore the abortions, divorce & remarriage, etc. if the laiety would turn a blind eye to the rampant homosexuality. Much of the laiety consented to do this, trusting that when the homos strayed and raped minors they would be dealt with - while instead they were often just shuffled about.

This left the clergy silent in the pulpit about the government attacks on families and natural law, and here we are.
