Francis Mercy Hits the Familia Christi Hard
The Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei under Cardinal Ladaria published a December 1 decree, imposing Roman Auxiliary Bishop Daniele Libanori as the new superior of the Familia Christi, an Italian Old Rite community consisting of 15 young priests and seminarians. The group was founded in 2016 by the excellent former Ferrara Archbishop Luigi Negri. It is loved by the faithful but hated by Negri’s successor, Archbishop Gian Carlo Perego, a modernist Bergoglio bishop who promotes mass-immigration and modernism.
According to press reports, Archbishop Perego mainly hates the Familia Christi because its priests also celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass. After the group was commissioned he published a statement thanking the Holy See quote – "for the care and attention for the good of the faithful of our Church". After that, Perego seems to have gone into hiding, and the webpage of his archdiocese is down.
Already in July, Archbishop Perego chased the Familia Christi out of their church Santa Maria in Vado in Ferrara. He did not care about the protests of literally hundreds of disheartened faithful. The young group was temporarily moved to the church Santa Chiara where they are forbidden to say mass in public and were promised another church, but the promise was never fulfilled.
The fate of the Familia Christi brings to mind the Fraternity of the Holy Apostles which was created by Bruxelles Archbishop Léonard and later dissolved by his anti-Catholic successor Cardinal Josef De Kesel without giving any plausible reason. Other flourishing communities which suffered a similar fate during the Francis pontificate are the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, the Franciscan Sister of the Immaculate, the Little Sisters of Mary in Laval and the Brazilian Haralds of the Gospel.
Marco Tosatti asks on his blog what terrible crimes the Familia Christi may have committed in order to attract the canonical attention of a Church that approves and promotes any kind of freaky doctrines, condones grave moral abuses and confers important positions to prelates who are in favour of gay pseudo-marriage and the invalid ordination of women.
