A group of feminist theologians have come together to produce a draft of A Woman's Bible, meant to counter traditional male interpretations of women characters in the Bible.
AFP reported that the theologians, both from Protestant and Roman Catholic denominations across several countries, have put forth texts that challenge presentations of female Bible characters as weak and subordinate to the men around them.
"Feminist values and reading the Bible are not incompatible," said Lauriane Savoy, one of the Geneva theology professors behind A Women's Bible, which was published in French.
Along with colleague Elisabeth Parmentier, Savoy says that many people lack an understanding of bibical texts.
"A lot of people thought they were completely outdated with no relevance to today's values of equality," the theologian said.
Parmentier offered an account in the Gospel of Luke where Jesus visits two sisters, Martha and Mary, as one example of interpretations that A Women's Bible challenges.

If God was a woman chocolate wouldn’t be fattening, women would have stronger sex drives than men, and none of that would matter anyway because She’d wipe out humanity with a great flood once per month. :)
They aren’t trying to build up women, many of whom are described as strong and important in the Bible (unlike the Koran), they’re trying to tear down men.
Hey, maybe accept we are different and complimentary, and maybe build each other up? Sadly, that’s not the feminist way.

No doubt the Feminist Bible will be bought for the novelty, then placed on the shelf next to the also unread Queen James Bible.
I have to wonder about the depth of current education, when someone styled a ‘theologian’ says that they see a ‘virgin v whore’ dichotomy in the Bible’s depiction of women.
They obviously haven’t studied ancient thought, symbology, and philosophy deeply enough to get beyond their shallow and simplistic modern thinking. They are making religion banal, common, uninteresting - a grave mistake that they don’t seem wise enough to even recognize.
DO it! And go straight to Hell! Theologians! Ha!
Rewriting the Bible in their liking. I suppose a lotta people would like to do that, but they don’t have the financial backing or the time these feministas do.

I misread the headline as “Feminist Theologians Daft”...seems like a better title.
Oh, for crying out loud. The Bible cannot be interpreted one way or another. It is what it is.
