The Vatican challenged countries gathered for the 24th U.N. Climate Change Conference to focus on the needs of the present and the future as it worked to take swift action.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican secretary of state, addressed the conference, COP24, in Katowice, Poland, Dec. 3 and told participants, "We are standing before a challenge of civilization for the benefit of the common good."
"The Katowice meeting has the fundamental task of developing the Paris Agreement Work Program. This document should be a solid set of guidelines, rules and institutional mechanisms, aimed at facilitating a fair and efficient implementation of the agreement, particularly at the national level," the cardinal said, adding, "We are all aware how difficult this endeavor is."
"We know what we can do, and what we have to do becomes an ethical imperative," he told conference participants.
The cardinal said COP24's guidelines should have "a clear ethical foundation," including "advancing the dignity of the human person, alleviating poverty and promoting integral human development," with "transparent, efficient and dynamic" measures.
"It is still possible to limit global warming, but to do so will require a clear, forward-looking and strong political will to promote as quickly as possible the process of transitioning to a model of development that is free from those technologies and behaviors that influence the over-production of greenhouse gas emissions," Cardinal Parolin said.
Speaking at a Dec. 3 news conference, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said commitment to combat climate change was "felt in all religions," and he praised the "very positive position" of Pope Francis on the issue.

The Vatican now stands with the leftist globalists with its bogus man-made global warming boogie man! Very sad!
Oh look, a liar.
Wonder why I should believe anything he says.
Sez the guy whose organization is so mired in scandal that it can hardly move. Clean up your own mess, Cardinal, before you start preaching to others.
And sell the Vatican art treasures while you’re at it. The money raised would go a long way to fighting “climate change”.
Did the UN promise the Vatican it would run all the reeducation camps ?
One government. One religion.
There truly is no scientific anthropogenic global warming, period.
There is more than ample and redundant, and easily accessed proof, those driving the false “climate change” narrative, have intentionally lied, cheated, changed, altrered, and misrepresented real records, climate reports, and studies.
This political and religiously militant movement, routinely and simply rejects the “cause and effect” and interaction of complex solar and luner cycles, interplanetary science and cycles, basic physics, planetary physics, magnetism, atmospheric science, weather cycles, and true oceanography.
They militantly and religiously reject almost all real science!
This makes the Pope and Catholic Church, and all other Protestant or Evangelical organizations who are elevating this otherwise humanistic and totalitarian cult religion, to be willful liars, and exposes them as ultimately being anti-God, and their motives being nothing less than a thirst for societal power and control.
Since they have rejected the God they perport to serve, and are willing to labor to subjugate or enslave societies around the world to a humanistic and drunk on a super totalitarian global government, this completely different emonstrates they would also be willing to serve a joint man-elevated ecumenical religious leaders, as well as a centralized government.
Hmmmmm..... Wonder where we have read about happening?
At least they stand firm in advancement of their religion. Too bad it’s not Catholicism.
When the religion of global warming competes with Catholicism, join it.
And sell the Vatican art treasures while youre at it.
No dont sell them. They invite us to lift our spirits up from an oppressive, horizontal secularism. The modernists construct some of the ugliest buildings and banal art in human history. We need the great works of art to inspire civilization to aspire to rise back up out of this dark age. To say we should just hawk sacred art for passing lucre is to concede to the liberal humanist error of placing the body above the soul and the material ahead of the spiritual.
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul?
Lunatics are truly everywhere. Who knew???
Remove the plank from your own eye.
