Argentine Archbishop: in Some Dioceses There is a Gay Priests’ Lobby

Archbishop Aguer welcomed Pope Francis's recent remarks on homosexuality in the priesthood

The Archbishop Emeritus of La Plata has said that some dioceses have a “high” proportion of gay clergy who constitute a “kind of lobby”.

Archbishop Héctor Aguer made the comment on the Channel 9 television programme Keys for a Better World. He was responding to Pope Francis’s remarks on homosexuality in the priesthood. The archbishop’s comment was reported by ACI Prensa, an EWTN-owned Catholic news agency based in Lima.

He cited Pope Francis saying that homosexuality had become “fashionable” and that this mentality had also entered the Church.

“The Pope has touched a key point, which did not used to be talked about,” he said. “I can assure you that, in some dioceses, the percentage of homosexual priests is high, and that they usually cover for each other; they do not come out of the closet … they constitute a kind of lodge or lobby, even those who are ‘non-practising’.”

The archbishop suggested it was a just form of discrimination not to admit gay people to the priesthood. “Fair discrimination is preventing things from being done that should not be done or that people who should not be in such a place be there,” he said. “Well: choosing candidates for the priesthood with full male integrity is an obligation of the Church; otherwise the sense of celibacy is being put at risk.”

From what I saw in Chicago-Cook-Lake Archdiocese, the gays were the Archdiocese. The non-gays would have been the lobby...except none had courage.

Pretty sad the Church of all places trying to rationalize this sexual perversion ...It’s gonna be fun watching God shred this corrupt and self-serving religion . I have empathy for the true followers of God and his word but not a grain for the animal fags that permeate this cash grab of a religion. I am just a Christian that knows the word of God never changes and he states clearly that man shall not lie with a man like he does with a woman. Cut n’ dry.

Allow married priests. This would mean there would be a lot more candidates for priesthood to choose from, so it wouldn’t be necessary to accept homosexuals in order to supply the need for priests. Right now, with the big priest shortage, they apparently can’t afford to turn away homosexuals.

It stands to reason that he very likely is, given his callous and dismissive attitude towards victims, as well as the lack of effective measures taken to purge homosexuality from the ranks.

Were I given that task I would have the problem well under control by now, with the Pope’s dictator-level control over the hierarchy.

I have thought of that idea for years (allowing married priests)and agree with you totally . I could never understand why couples would go to seek advice on marriage from a never married man (priest)
