In Wunderlich v. Germany, (ECHR, Jan. 10, 2019), the European Court of Human Rights in a Chamber Judgment upheld Germany's three-week removal of four children from their parents' home after the parents insisted on home schooling them and refused to send them to state schools. The court held that there was no violation of Art. 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (Right to Respect for Private and Family Life). the Court said in part:
The Court finds that the enforcement of compulsory school attendance, to prevent social isolation of the applicants’ children and ensure their integration into society, was a relevant reason for justifying the partial withdrawal of parental authority. It further finds that the domestic authorities reasonably assumed.....

state will take your children let alone your money..will close your church...maybe take your property for "better" uses....like maybe its unfair for you to have an extra bedroom and maybe you can live just fine in a trailor home and let a large illegal family take over your homestead....

I quoted that part, because of course you should. If they want to make sure people know stuff they can have general exams that need to be passed. That I would not object to.
But to your larger point, I totally agree. And I remember my mother saying (this would have been in the 1930s) that every day she and her brother would come home from school and say what Sister had taught that day. And every night her father would bang his fist on the table and explain why Sister was wrong.

This is coming to the US in the next 3-7 yaers.
Kids don't know what they're learning may be wrong so the have no 'red flag' experience. They simply hear adults telling them how and what to think without question.
So the teacher says, 'Communism is great!' and they believe it to be true.
That's why parents are constantly being shocked. They're not asking their kids what they're learning.
Simply asking, 'what did you learn in history today' or 'what novel did your teacher give you to read' would go a LONG way to circumvent public school indoctrination.
