Archbishop Viganò: Vatican Abuse Summit Ignores Real Problem, Pope Has ‘Lost Credibility’

February 15, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Archbishop Carlo Viganò said he is “praying intensely” for the success of the abuse summit happening next week at the Vatican, but he fears that there is "no sign” that Pope Francis, along with organizers, is willing to “attend to the real causes” of the clerical abuse crisis.

In a Feb. 10 essay published by the National Catholic Register as part of its “Abuse and the Way to Healing” symposium, the former Nuncio to the United States offered some questions that he says reveals a lack of “genuine willingness” to address the crisis.

Viganò’s first questions concerned the reluctance of those who have planned the February meeting to address the problem of predatory clerical sexual misconduct with non-minors.

“Why will the meeting focus exclusively on the abuse of minors?” he asked.

“These crimes are indeed the most horrific, but the crises in the United States and Chile that have largely precipitated the upcoming summit have to do with abuses committed against young adults, including seminarians, not only against minors,” the Archbishop continued.

“Almost nothing has been said about sexual misconduct with adults, which is itself a grave abuse of pastoral authority, whether or not the relationship was ‘consensual.’”

The Archbishop then addressed the role homosexuality has played in the sexual abuse crisis and how it is not being addressed at all at the summit.

“Why does the word 'homosexuality' never appear in recent official documents of the Holy See?” Viganò asked.

I wrote this elsewhere...I believe there is a strong likelihood that there are evil forces roaming the world, seeking out Abp. Viganò so that he can be brought to Italy for, um, a debrief or two. It saddens me to think so...

However, I also believe that Abp. Viganò is undoubtedly surrounded and protected by an army of Christian Soldiers with enough ordnance to scare the NRA.

I continue to pray for the Pope..but the safety of Viganò must also be in our prayers, as well as those protecting him.

Although Vigano makes good points, I think he will turn out to be the latest Burke.

What does “the latest Burke” even mean?

Meaning he will come and go just like Burke and his “Dubia”.

Cardinal Burke CONTINUES to fight the liberalism in the Vatican, and in case you missed it, 2 of the cosigners to the 'Dubia' have died.

Really now. Whatever happened with his "Dubia"? Whatever happened to that "correction"? Why hasn't he called Francis a heretic?

Too little too late.

Like I said, nothing will come of Vigano (or Muller), just like nothing has come of Burke.

And regardless of what they say about Francis, they are still men of the Vatican II Council. Still Modernists themselves.

ya....they should just storm the Vatican......

Did you even read the links I posted to see what Cdl. Burke has written?

Just whom do you believe is in a position to take any positive action, aside from your suggested name calling?

I see you can't read.

Nothing "happens" to the Dubia or the correction, unless the Pope decides to respond, and he hasn't.

Calling him a heretic accomplishes nothing.

Cdl Burke did explore calling for the resignation of Pope Francis, which is about as stark as it gets.

So, do YOU have the courage to answer my question?

What would you have Cdl. Burke do?

I don't speak for piusv, but Cardinal Burke did promise a formal correction if there was no response to the dubia.

It's been 880 days now, and there has been neither a response to the dubia, nor a formal correction.

You would do well to read this thread:

Unless, as I suspect, you would only consider a Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) replacement?

Again, 2 of the co-signers of the Dubia are dead, does Burke go it alone in issuing a correction?

I suspect the exploration of asking for a resignation has become the preferred path, with all of the pitfalls that entails.

Why not? St. Athanasius went it alone.

Did not Archbishop Vigano go it alone?
