A Response to John MacArthur on Ben Shapiro
Youtube ^ | 2/9/19 | Keith Darrell

Posted on 02/16/2019 12:13:55 PM PST by OddLane

In this video I seek to address John MacArthur's narrowing of *the Gospel* to Jesus coming to save us from Hell. The nature of the Gospel in the first century was a "political" proclamation and not limited to the salvation of the soul. The Gospel in this age, building out of Colossians 1, is cosmic in scope and not individual and "soulish."

Another misguided, sinful, selfish soul reading into the Bible what he/she wants to.

I haven’t watched it yet but just reading that line sure sounds like you’re 100% correct.

I thought John MacArthur did a wonderful job.

I believe Keith Darrell likes hearing himself talk. Almost to the point of being insufferable. I am not sure if this type rant does more to turn people away.

I went only about a minute into the video link, and my conclusion was the same as your. A misguided, selfish soul reading into the Bible what he wants.

Many, many quotes from the old testament in the new, by the apostle Paul and others. Not a one of their citations were used, as this fellow on the video, for political purposes.

Isaiah 53, for instance, where in that chapter is there the slightest notion that the purpose of Christ (the “servant,” the “lamb”) was for anything else but the salvation of our souls.

I bit the bullet, and clicked to listen to the video because I was curious about what his argument would be. But I have to admit that when he right away started rambling about the gospel was meant to “Changie the social order” and “the restore of the cosmos” I just could not listen to any more. Why do some people want to make the subject so complicated? Perhaps it is an attempt to make themselves sound more more intelligent, and important.

Just to be clear, John MacArthur did not state this. This is the position of the person narrating this video who pointedly says he disagrees with MacArthur who believes the gospel is only for our salvation.

And I agree with you and Dr. MacArthur.

I’ve lasted about a minute or a minute 30 seconds so far.

Comes off as a SJW - social “gospel” person, so far.

Dave Hunt wrote about it.

If this guy goes on as I expect he will, I’ll go as far as to guess he voted for Barack twice and Hillary, too.

I couldn’t watch it much. Can’t take Shapiro’s voice. He could get extra work for all those robot commercials.

Excellent critique of John MacArthur’s discussion with Ben Shapiro. While I greatly respect MacArthur and have learned a lot from him, these criticisms are warranted.

For Christians, finding the right balance between faith and politics is challenging. MacArthur questioned the Revolution and the proper Christian role even in it.

In New Testament times, those in positions of authority in the Roman government were targeted with the Gospel message and with prayer for their salvation. Paul used his Roman citizenship in order to engage in this mission as well. Paul also instructed Christians to use their positions in society, such as the ability to be freed from slavery, in order to better serve God. These things can be extended in principle to show that it is the the duty of Christians to vote and be politically involved to influence political society in favor of the furtherance of the Gospel.

If more Christian preachers and teachers advocated engaging in the political realm as part of the Biblical approach to spreading the Gospel, our nation would not have moved so far left with things like abortion, sexual perversion, and restrictions on religious liberty and free speech. Further, our nation would not be spreading this filth to the rest of the world and would instead be what it was in the past—the primary nation that spreads the Gospel to the rest of the world.

Leftists are collectivist hedonists at heart: anti-spiritual.

I have been in ministry, and become acquainted with such heretics.

He's not a leftist or an exponent of the social gospel.

This is a complete misreading of whatever portion of the video you watched.
