GREENVILLE, S.C. — The former pastor of an Upstate church returned to the pulpit Sunday, and along with her message, made an apparent threat against the Greenville News, according to an article in The Washington Post.
The Post reported that Hope Carpenter was guest speaker at Relentless Church, where she led the congregation for many years before relocating to San Jose last year.
The threat came as Hope Carpenter shared the stage with the controversial new pastors of Relentless Church in Greenville, John and Aventer Gray, who have been under fire for their lavish spending in recent months.

Back in the day Flip Wilson had a routine about these churches. It was called “The First Church Of What’s Happening Now” and it was all about the pastor soliciting donations from the pulpit. Nothing has changed.

I worked with a nurse, who said, “don’t bother calling me on a Sunday, ‘cause I’ll be in church all day.” (some black churches routinely have long services, followed by a potluck and an evening service, for most of the day, on Sundays).
Of course, this is the same girl who was in the car of someone else’s boyfriend, while her own husband was off with someone else. When the girlfriend caught them in the act, the guilty woman said, “Don’t get so excited. It’s no big deal. It’s just sex!” Some churches are full of hypocrites, which prevents some people from believing in the genuineness of Christianity.

Far too many of these televangelists are making way too much money; I think their overall impact on Christianity might be a net negative, either for the fact that so many people find them repulsive, but also for the fact that they attract people to the church for the wrong reasons, e.g., the idea that they can get rich simply through wishful thinking.
Funny how you completely ignore the fact that this thread has nothing to do with anything Catholic. Hate much?
