Asmara (Agenzia Fides) - In Eritrea, even the last Catholic hospital has been closed. On Friday 5 July, the nuns who ran the facility in Zager were forcibly taken away by the police and seals were placed on the doors. The nuns were told to leave the hospital immediately and were prevented from taking hospital equipment with them. The hospital provided maternity services and general medical assistance for the village of Zager some thirty kilometers from the capital, Asmara.
In recent weeks, 22 Catholic hospitals and clinics have been closed. Some observers read in this wave of requisitions a response of the regime of Isayas Afeworki to the criticism of the Church towards its government. In their pastoral letters, Catholic bishops have called for profound political reforms in the Country that currently has no constitution and has never organized presidential and legislative elections.

An african nation...
Knock yourselves out, you stupid asswipes.
The Country that currently has no constitution and has never organized presidential and legislative elections.
Democracy is overrated. Leave them alone to find their own way.
And build the damn wall.
“In their pastoral letters, Catholic bishops have called for profound political reforms in the Country that currently has no constitution and has never organized presidential and legislative elections.”
For heaven’s sake, it’s Africa. What do you expect?
Call for reforms all you want as Islam converts by the hand of death and fills the ever widening Christian void.
During the past few years I’ve met a couple of Christians from Eritrea.
I’m so glad they immigrated to the America. Conservative and the salt of the earth.
My boss is from Eritrea, wonderful man who raised a wonderful family. He can’t go back there because he’d be arrested for refusing to fight for the current dictator who once promised the people everything but when in power he provided nothing except misery.
When my boss got here they tried to put him on welfare and give him a job as a dishwasher because washing dishes had such low pay it wouldn’t stop his welfare. He refused and worked up to 3 jobs and got a degree. He said that 30 years later there are still people doing the dish washing and taking taking welfare. This is job security for the bureaucrat and misery for the welfare recipient.
Save your prayers for Ethiopia, one of the oldest surviving nations. Eritrea is a breakaway Muslim area and has been infiltrated with foreign Muslims.
The permanent underclass are bipedal livestock for elites; God bless him for making his own way.
Then wouldn’t they need prayers more?
I worked with with an Eritrean years ago. He had a dream of going back and making a difference there. He ended up staying here and became a proud American. The constant war caused him to give up on his dream of a peaceful Eritrea.
its like Haiti.....we’d all like to help but with no sound govt charity is just washed down the gutter....
The Muslims by what they do, is planting the seeds of future, new Christians.
Rather, pray that Ethiopia stays strong, and pray for more Muslims to come to faith in Christ the Savior.
“The blood of Christians is the seeds of new Christians”.
