Monsignor Walter Rossi is “on retreat,” said the celebrant at a recent Mass held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, where Rossi continues to serve as rector in spite of an investigation into his misconduct by the archdiocese of Washington, D.C., and the diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania. At that very moment, according to a Church insider, Rossi was vacationing in Italy with Fr. Andrew Hvozdovic, the co-owner of Rossi’s posh beach condo in gay-friendly Fort Lauderdale. At least one bishop, however, has called for the suspension of Rossi while he is under investigation. Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, tweeted out this last week that Rossi’s active status as rector is “contrary to canon law” and that a “canonical Preliminary investigation is called for and Msgr. Rossi should be on administrative leave.”

It’s about time!
The Church has gone through an existential crisis about every 500 years. First was the sack of Rome in the 5th century. Many clergy and scholars were killed and documents lost. In the 11th century there was the East-West schism. About five hundred years later there was the Reformation. Today, five centuries after the heretical Reformation, the Church is under internal assault by the homosexual presence and its associated predatory, decadent behavior within the clergy, Catholic institutions, the orders especially the Jesuits and the Vatican itself. The Church survived the first three challenges and the reign of prior corrupt popes. Yet it will take a strong faith to believe that it will also survive this current crisis.
Rossi is only on retreat, i.e., vacation.
He has not been dismissed as rector of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception by Wilting Wilton Gregory.
What is truly miraculous is how despite liturgical abuses, self-destructive policies, and all these “birds of the air” nesting in its branches, the Church itself has remained true to the faith.
If it was just a Church built by men, it would have been a goner long ago. But Jesus established it, and send the Holy Spirit to guide it. Men corrupt, but God perfects. Always without end. Amen
Boston priest Father Paul Shanley owned a bed & breakfast with another homosexual Boston priest; the B&B was in Palm Springs, California. They turned it into a virtual "Sodom and Gomorrah" according to one of their young victims, a teenager from San Bernardino, to which parish he was transferred after he was involved in numerous child molestation incidents in Boston.
This was in the 1990s.
Shanley never admitted guilt for anything and claims he's the victim, even after serving 12 years in a Massachusetts prison. He is subject to supervised release until 2027, when he'll be 96 years old.
He was described as a "con man with a collar" by one of his victim's lawyer's.
Lawyers for other victims, who have also dealt with a number of other priests accused of pedophilia, said that Paul Shanley was exceptional even within that group "because of his ability to manipulate."
