I get to see some wonderfully variable fog quite often at the Lake of the Ozarks. It is quite common in the mornings as the cool temperatures profit from the warm lake water before turn-over.
The variable topography of the Osage River valley allows you to look down on it and drive through it. It also is interesting to boat through on an early morning as it is breaking up.
Perhaps Eric has a story to add.

Warmth from the lake keeps us 8 or ten degrees above local temps.
Our veggie garden continues to produce after frost claimed veggies elsewhere.
