Psalm 91 - God's Promise of Protection from Corona Virus
The Bible | Traditionally Ascribed to Moses

Posted on 03/12/2020 10:58:46 AM PDT by Jagermonster

1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 1  He who is dwelling In the secret place of the Most High, In the shade of the Mighty lodgeth habitually, 1  Those who go to God Most High for safety will be protected by God All-Powerful. 1  He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2  I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 2  He is saying of Jehovah, `My refuge, and my bulwark, my God, I trust in Him,' 2  I will say to the Lord, “You are my place of safety and protection. You are my God, and I trust you.” 2  I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence 3  For He delivereth thee from the snare of a fowler, From a calamitous pestilence. 3  God will save you from hidden traps and from deadly diseases. 3  For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.
4  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 4  With His pinion He covereth thee over, And under His wings thou dost trust, A shield and buckler [is] His truth. 4  He will protect you like a bird spreading its wings over its young. His truth will be like your armor and shield. 4  He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 5  Thou art not afraid of fear by night, Of arrow that flieth by day, 5  You will not fear any danger by night or an arrow during the day. 5  You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6  Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 6  Of pestilence in thick darkness that walketh, Of destruction that destroyeth at noon, 6  You will not be afraid of diseases that come in the dark or sickness that strikes at noon. 6  nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7  A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 7  There fall at thy side a thousand, And a myriad at thy right hand, Unto thee it cometh not nigh. 7  At your side 1,000 people may die, or even 10,000 right beside you. But you will not be hurt. 7  A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8  Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 8  But with thine eyes thou lookest, And the reward of the wicked thou seest, 8  You will only watch what happens. You will see the wicked punished. 8  You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.
9  Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 9  (For Thou, O Jehovah, [art] my refuge,) The Most High thou madest thy habitation. 9  The Lord is your protection. You have made God Most High your place of safety. 9  Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—the Most High, who is my refuge—
10  There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 10  Evil happeneth not unto thee, And a plague cometh not near thy tent, 10  Nothing bad will happen to you. No disaster will come to your home. 10  no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
11  For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 11  For His messengers He chargeth for thee, To keep thee in all thy ways, 11  He has put his angels in charge of you. They will watch over you wherever you go. 11  For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
12  They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12  On the hands they bear thee up, Lest thou smite against a stone thy foot. 12  They will catch you with their hands. And you will not hit your foot on a rock. 12  On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13  Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 13  On lion and asp thou treadest, Thou trampest young lion and dragon. 13  You will walk on lions and cobras. You will step on strong lions and snakes. 13  You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
14  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 14  Because in Me he hath delighted, I also deliver him -- I set him on high, Because he hath known My name. 14  The Lord says, “If someone loves me, I will save him. I will protect those who know me. 14  “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15  He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 15  He doth call Me, and I answer him, I [am] with him in distress, I deliver him, and honour him. 15  They will call to me, and I will answer them. I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. 15  When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
16  With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. 16  With length of days I satisfy him, And I cause him to look on My salvation! 16  I will give them a long, full life. They will see how I can save.” 16  With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Amen!

And from Isaiah 26:20:

Go, my people, enter your chambers and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourselves a little while until the wrath has passed.

Strange how even with today's technology, isolation is the only method of slowing/stopping the spread of the Corona virus.

Nope, I meant Moses.

Not all the Psalms are "Psalms of David."

According to Wikipedia, "Though no author is mentioned in the Hebrew text of this psalm, Jewish tradition ascribes it to Moses, with David compiling it in his Book of Psalms." [link]

But, I don't think historical authorship matters too much. Neither Moses nor David is collecting royalties at this point. :)~

Good post.

But that God can protect us from pestilence, doesn't mean we don't need to take precautions.

"The prudent see danger coming and take refuge.
The simple continue and pay the the penalty." - Proverbs

Last week when the first cases in Tennessee were discovered, our employees started wondering if they could work from home. I was on vacation but was monitoring the discussion.

Our boss was clearly in denial and saying it was nothing more than a mild flu. Another guy spoke up and said he wasn't worried, that his God was bigger than any virus.

I almost responded with, "My God proactively gave me a brain. That brain tells me things like 'Danny, there's a train coming, you should get off the tracks.' Or, "Danny, there is a virus spreading in your community, maybe you should work from home."

God is bigger than the train and there are many many ways he could rescue me if I ignore my brain and remain on the tracks. But he might just let me suffer the consequences of my stupidity.

Not everybody has the ability to work from home. My department does. So many people are going to have to take what precautions they can and trust in Divine Protection for the rest.

It didn't sound like they had modified their stance this week. So I called in with a cough which I do have and they encouraged me not to come in. I made it easy for them to excuse me, but I did nothing for the other employees.

As the schools and events are shutting down around us, and the case counts grow, surely they will come to their senses.

‘But that God can protect us from pestilence, doesn’t mean we don’t need to take precautions.’

if God wished to protect us from pestilence, maybe not creating pestilence in the first place might work better...

No better pray to cover you and your family, than Psalms 91 and the blood of Jesus! I use it all the time. Blessings.

"if God wished to protect us from pestilence, maybe not creating pestilence in the first place might work better..."

Jury is still out on whether we created pestilence in this case or whether God did.

Assuming God did, then maybe not braking His one commandment in the garden would have worked better. I mean we had one rule, just one.

So you’re going to promise us that if we have enough faith, or something, that we won’t get sick from it? All the Christians are going to be protected and OK?

Did God tell you to tell us that or is this just your own wishful thinking?

And what happens when some Christians die from it? Can they come back to you and bring charges against you?

What do you say then?
