It was an article in the NYC paper accusing Christians of being hypocrites.

This question hasn’t really been relevant in a long time.

A criminal justice system as fouled up and corrupt as ours doesn’t even have the moral authority to put people in jail, let alone execute them.

Read Genesis Chapter 9 verse 6 for your answer.

Short, unambiguous, and to the point.

And these same “pro-woman” libs have no problem letting a convicted rapist go free so as to avoid capital punishment.

Talk about doubling down on evil.

Evil people will do & think evil things.

RE: Do you see that verse as vindicating capital punishment, or opposing it???

Why use the word SWORD if capital punishment is not in mind?

The authorities use swords to slice, stab and kill don’t they? Otherwise, what are swords useful for?

Killing of the guilty is OK’d in the scriptures. Killing the innocent is not.

Some people say that capital punishment is not a deterrence. I challenge anyone to show me an example of someone who was executed for murder, murdering someone else after sentence was carried out. It is a big deterrence. Bible says God hates “hands that shed innocent blood.” Proverbs 6:17. Big difference.

So your plain simple answer is “yes”, you see that verse as vindicating the use of capital punishment, I guess. I prefer the direct to the interpretative.

Easy. I support capital punishment for those who murder innocent babies.

Execution is a gift to the person knowing he will soon meet his maker. If they live on and on they likely will never repent and come to the knowledge of The Lord and Salvation. A time limit gives them time to think, or not.

I can’t remember where it is in the Bible, but Father says “You have these evil things in your midst because you do not put them away from you” paraphrased for sure. Like tolerating and keeping molesters and rapists alive, put them down and they will cease to be a problem.

I am fine with capital punishment provided it is carried out in the biblically prescribed manner. The accused must be confronted by at least two eye witnesses to the crime who must stake their own lives on the veracity and accuracy of their testimony. They were also required to have warned the accused that s/he was about to commit a capital crime. Circumstantial evidence is not admitted in Scripture.

As a Christian AND Conservative, I’m against both.

If you are for either, you are neither.

Because God instituted it.

If He’s OK with it, then I’m not complaining.

Besides, it IS pro-life to protect people from evil that would seek to destroy lives.

God established capital punishment for certain crimes.

Are you saying that that’s not Christian of Him or that He’s not a Christian?

Why are you opposing what God established?

How can pro-life Christians also support capital punishment?

It was explained on FR before as the difference between guilt and innocence.

“If we execute murderers and there is in fact no deterrent effect, we have killed a bunch of murderers. If we fail to execute murderers, and doing so would in fact have deterred other murders, we have allowed the killing of a bunch of innocent victims. I would much rather risk the former. This, to me, is not a tough call.” - John McAdams, Marquette University/Department of Political Science, on deterrence
