I so totally agree that churches need to stay out of that secular yoke.
Do churches not pay payroll taxes? Unemployment insurance? Withhold income taxes, etc?
Why yes. Yes they do.
And since they do, they are just as entitled to PPP as any other business.
Churches should not be 503c, 504x, whatever, either, same reason.
Like it says in Romans 14, I’m fairly certain that if a church goes PPP they are doing it as unto the Lord; and if they eschew PPP they also are refraining from it as unto the Lord. The clincher in that passage is: “Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind”, i.e. don’t judge or shame one another over these matters extraneous to the core of the Gospel.
I’m agreeing with Ramsey that there is a potential can of worms that could emerge if and when courts say “You took the Government’s money, now live by their social justice rules.”
Positive Personal Palpitations?

Ewww on Pulsating Pustules.
PPP - Paycheck Protection Program
It is the “free money from the government” is you meet all the conditions to get the loan forgiven. Most won’t, and we can be sure of that since the federal student loan forgiveness program has a 99% rejection rate.
Ok...thanks. I should’ve known that.
DeVos has been deliberately sabotaging loan forgiveness. I dont think banks will for PPP. The requirements seem pretty easy to meet if youve seen the forms - spend it on payroll and dont reduce your avg headcount.
This is EXACTLY why my church did not choose to be a 501(c)3 when we formed 3 years ago! We have never had a problem with anyone not donating because their donation isn't tax-deductible.
Since my house is paid for, I always take the standard deduction rather than itemizing. Thus, the tax deductability of donations is here to me.
I have often asked our people if they’d change their giving pattern if the deductibility were withdrawn. Maybe they were virtue-signaling; but they all said there’d be no change. The same goes for me.
