[Catholic Caucus] Francis Calls During Eucharist - And Phone Comes First (Video)

Jalostotitlán Father Miguel Domínguez, Jalisco, Mexico, was reading the gospel during a Eucharist when his mobile phone rang.

Instead of switching it off, he accepted the call immediately, nodded to the congregation, disappeared into the sacristy, and transmitted the phone-call via the microphone to everybody.

It turned out that he was talking to "Francis," reports VidaNuevadigital.com (May 21). The incident was recorded.

Shortly after, he returned, asked for applause for Francis, and continued reading the Gospel. Mexican media call Domínguez a friend of Francis.

In a serious Catholic Mass, a priest would obviously not have answered the phone, because there Christ comes first, not a phone.

I’ve had to manage a kid having a grand male seizure during Mass, moving pews, summoning EMS, -EMS coming in with a stretcher and father would not dare interrupt Mass

That’s Jesus on that altar.

Those are the words of Jesus Himself in that Gospel reading

(Father did ask for status after Mass. All good)

Thanks for posting the link to this incident, which definitely belongs on this thread. I believe that the optimal response would have been “Please tell His Holiness “Get behind me Satan” and that I will call him back after I have completed my thanksgiving.”

I remember hearing a story or two about priests hauling through the Latin at great speed during the Blitz.

The call was silent at first, and then sound came on. Did the priest deliberately step into that archway and turn on speaker so congregation could hear a “staged” conversation? Obviously the call was expected.

An equally sad part to this episode is that people- priests included- cannot find the strength or courage to live their personal CELL PHONE companion in the car - and for some stupid reason feel they cannot be without it.... Even in the presence of The Lord..... They cannot be apart from their new technological identity....

How sad we humans can be..... A freakin telephone......

Müller replied, “Did you tell him I am celebrating Mass?”. “Yes,” said the secretary, “but he says he does not mind — he wants to talk to you all the same.”

Never mind about what God wants, it was the Francis who didn't mind the interruption of Holy Mass.
