Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Exodus 6

Family Record of Moses and Aaron

13 Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.

14 These were the heads of their families[d]:

The sons of Reuben the firstborn son of Israel were Hanok and Pallu, Hezron and Karmi. These were the clans of Reuben.

15 The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon.

16 These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.

17 The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei.

18 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years.

19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.

These were the clans of Levi according to their records.

20 Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years.

21 The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg and Zikri.

22 The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri.

23 Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

24 The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These were the Korahite clans.

25 Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas.

These were the heads of the Levite families, clan by clan.

26 It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord said, “Bring the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions.” 27 They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt about bringing the Israelites out of Egypt—this same Moses and Aaron.

This Genealogy, like the ones in Matthew and Luke, establishes Moses' legitimacy to lead his People.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised And Worshiped,
For You Alone Are Holy,
Righteous,
and Infinitely Just!
You Are Eternally Faithful,
and there is no Shadow of Turning with You.
Light and Darkness Can Not Occupy The Same Space,
and There is No Darkness With You
Good and Evil Can Not Dwell Together,
And There is No Evil With You.
Yet You Always Judge Rightly,
With Grace and Truth,
Justice and Mercy,
Wisdom and Kindness,
Firmness and Gentleness.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The little Black-and-White TV set had me totally absorbed, in the courtroom scene of the 1960 movie "Inherit The Wind".

Spencer Tracy (as lawyer Henry Drummond) was grilling a witness who firmly believed in The Bible. Mockingly, the Spencer Tracy character spoke of "The Begats", meaning the frequent genealogies in the Book of Genesis. Unfortunately, the witness got a little flustered by the question, as nearly EVERYBODY finds "The Begats" to be a strange interruption in an excellent story.

Imagine my horror when, twenty years later, I began to read the New Testament in its entirety, starting with the First Chapter of Matthew. It was a whole chapter of "Begats"! YIKES! But, thankfully, I pressed on, and in the last 39 years have read the entire Bible, in many translations, more times than I can count, EVEN the "Begats".

Today's Bible Portion is a list of "Begats" that gives us the genealogy of Moses. The Holy Spirit, the Inspiration for Scripture, chose to put the Genealogy of Moses in this very spot, so I will offer no argument! This list of "Begats" goes back to the first three of Jacob's sons, born of his first wife Leah. After Reuben and Simeon, we meet Levi and his sons. The genealogy traces Moses all the way back to Levi, and it is this line that will be chosen by God to be the Priests, Musicians, and Caretakers of both The Tabernacle and the Temple. And so, the Genealogy is given here to not only trace Moses's lineage to Israel (after all, he WAS raised as an Egyptian, and a PRINCE no less!), but also to legitimize his task as a Go-Between (a priest) between God and His People.

Both Matthew and Luke use "Begats" to authenticate the Royal Lineage of Jesus by tracing Him back to The Tribe of Judah, and King David. Luke goes so far as to follow the line all the way back to Adam, which brings us back to "Inherit The Wind". If the Witness had been clearer in his own mind as to the purpose of "The Begats", he probably would not have gotten so flustered.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

Psalm 125

A Song of Ascents.

1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time on and for evermore.
3 For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest
on the land allotted to the righteous,
so that the righteous may not stretch out
their hands to do wrong.
4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
and to those who are upright in their hearts.
5 But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways
the Lord will lead away with evildoers.
Peace be upon Israel!

Moses spanned two cultures, Egypt and Israel, like Paul spanned the Romans and Israel. And both knew their lineage.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
