Behind in the polls, Bills calls on Klobuchar to debate (MN Libertarian update)
Minnesota Public Radio ^ | July 11, 2012 | Tom Scheck

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kurt Bills told Morning in America radio host William Bennett this morning that he's polling about 26 percentage points behind DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

Bills touted his background as an economics teacher and said his standing will improve once voters get to know him.

"Nobody knows me," Bills said as he referred to the campaign's polling data. "What we find out is that once people understand that I grew up blue collar, I actually have been in a union my whole life though I'm a coauthor on Right to Work, I'm a public school teacher who is still taught his class and stayed in the classroom, I'm a citizen legislator, all of a sudden my [favorability] to [unfavorability] goes 71-13."

Bills is working to increase that profile on several levels. He told Bennett that he'd love to see Mitt Romney "stand on the stage with a public school teacher and union member and campaign because it shows that things are tightening up here. "

Kurt Bills is an unabashed Libertarian and Ron Paul supporter. We need far more such people on Capitol Hill.

This is a long-shot race, but an interesting one. If Kurt Bills can tap into the Paul fundraising aparatus, he could make it competitive.

Good Lord, Klobuchar is one of the dumbest senators on the hill. How can anyone be 26 points behind her?

We really are becoming a nation of morons.

same reason Rou Paul could not get more than 10% of the vote...

Couple that with the fact that NO ONE knows this guy and it’s obvious the MN-GOPe don’t want to win.

No one knows who Kurt Bills is.

“U.S. Senate candidate Kurt Bills is taking an unusual route to letting Minnesotans learn about him.
The Republican Rosemount high school economic teacher regularly posts “econ101” lessons on Facebook.
Friday’s installment:

“We’ve covered fixed and sunk costs and even discussed short run. Let’s move on to understand the long run.
“In the long run, all costs are variable costs. Long run is different for each person or firm in that there are different contracts and agreements that have been entered into. If one likes the benefits of contracted price or costs, they would find their short run (when at least one cost is fixed) as being extended.
“Examples of variable costs are labor, materials and even utilities as they vary as a firm produces more and uses more energy.”

Generally, candidates new to the public introduce themselves in softer ways, not immediately delving into complex issues such as economics. But when Republicans endorsed the state representative, it was because of his economics background.

Bills faces token primary opposition, then goes against Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar in the Nov. 6 election.”

Why doesn't Ron Paul give him a few million that his fanatics flushed down the toilet during one of his many pointless "Money Bombs"? At least someone could actually make real use of Paul's cult of personality cash.

Losertarians are retarded but they are fun to watch as their acolytes wail and snivel.

Libertarians have a lot of good ideas and the failure of the Obama Administration has given them renewed credibility. I’m not one myself, but I like a lot of what they advocate.

Right, and when they find out that he’s a Paultard, he’ll lose by more than 26%.

The GOP lost this election in the primary. But, hey, we wouldn’t want to nominate someone who could actually win, right?

>> Paul has strongly endorsed Bills on his website.

Ah, that explains the 26 percentage point deficit.

The Bills campaign is DOA. It has been since the day he won the endorsement. This race would have been hard enough no matter who the state GOP endorsed back in June. But when Bills won the endorsement, that pretty much sealed it.

Going off the most recent fundraising reports, the Paultard fundraising apparatus is nowhere to be seen.

The Bills campaign recently held an open house for their campaign - and charged attendees $5 if they wanted their picture taken with the candidate. Seriously?! $5 bucks for a picture with the candidate?

There are GOP campaigns in this state that are more deserving of our time and money than this one.

I also have no confidence in him having a chance.

Sad, it would have been nice to get a strong challenge to that contemptible piece of bilge.

Good news on the Paul front however, his people failed to take over the Nebraska state convention.

Amy Klobuchar is the daughter of the long time Star Tribune columnist Jim Klobuchar: name recognition and "comfortableness" until the cows come home.

Also the Yale University degree wows some people.

Cheers!

Minnesota’s lost. For all I care,it can be part of the newly formed Communist States of America when the “red” states break away and form “a more perfect union”.
