OMAHA -- Okay, now that the election is over, are you ready to talk about 2008? Chuck Hagel is.

The Republican senator from Nebraska has been thinking seriously about 2008 since he won reelection in 2002, and mulling a run for the White House even longer. He has a long history of doing, and getting, what he wants. He's ready -- well, ready to talk.

As a Nebraskan, I have absolutely no intention of supporting Sen. Hagel's bid for the White House. He made a gamble this past year that Bush was going to lose and ended up getting some face time and a notable mention by Sen. Kerry in two of the debates. I likely won't ever vote for him again.

So, is he going to run as a Democrat?

You can say that again. I'll meet him at the I 80 bridge. I've already called his Omaha office. This man is dillusional.

He needs a good primary opponent. However, if he wins the primary, then I'd hold my nose and vote for the back stabber.

He'd better run as a Democrat, because his candidacy is DOA in the Republican Party.

I'd right in my own name before voting for Chucky. If the GOP is ignorant enough to put forward someone like McCain or Hagel, they will lose my support.

McCain I can handle, at least given the option of voting for him or a Democrat. With Hagel, I'd rather not vote, or vote Democrat because the Democrat opponent will probably be more Republican than Hagel!

Come on guys. I wasn't here when it happened, but I've heard what some were saying about Bush in 98 and 99. You know you would vote for him over Hillary.

Immediately following the end of the Republican National Convention, Dan Rather asked John McCain whether he thought John Kerry could effectively lead our nation's foreign policy.

McCain's reply: "John Kerry would make an excellent Commander-in-Chief."

You're free to vote for whomever you wish, but such a milquetoast response does not earn my vote.

So far, the only people whose names I've heard batted around for '08 are RINOs; Rudy G and Hagel are the biggest names though. Folks here in the Neborg aren't real crazy about the stands he has taken since his last reelection. In fact someone recently told me they thought Ben Nelson (D-NE) was alot more conservative than Chuck. I can't remember where he is on 2nd Amend.

I will do everything in my (consulting) power to insure this backstabbing RINO jerk doesn't get past Iowa.

Hindsight may be 20-20, but I was totally unimpressed with Dubya's fence straddling during the runup to 2000. I voted for Buchanan in 2000, and say what you will but it was the only vote a principled man could have made at the time. Bush had an epiphany on 9/11 and his behavior since earned him my vote this time around.
