Scientists Retrieve Proteins From Dinosaur Bone
New York times ^ | April 12, 2007 | JOHN NOBLE WILFORD

In a retrieval once thought unattainable, scientists have recovered and identified proteins in a bone of a well-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex, a dinosaur that lived and died and was fossilized 68 million years ago.

[...]

Repeated analysis of the T-rex proteins, the researchers said, uncovered new evidence of a link between dinosaurs and birds, a widely held but contentious hypothesis. Three of the seven reconstructed protein sequences were closely related to chickens. The scientists resisted being drawn into speculation on the likely taste of a T-rex drumstick.

If we get some DNA, lets try cloning them.

You bet! If it tastes like chicken you’d only have to cook twice a year.

"In a retrieval once thought unattainable, scientists have recovered and identified proteins in a bone of a well-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex, a dinosaur that lived and died and was fossilized 68 million years ago."

"The earliest previously identified ancient proteins were from mammoths that died about 300,000 years ago. The oldest confirmed samples of DNA — a more direct bearer of information of molecular evolution, but also more degradable — have come from Neanderthals that lived 30,000 to 50,000 years ago. The extraction of DNA would be necessary for studies in dinosaur genetics and for cloning experiments."

Funny how no one ever considers that the dating schemes might be wrong.

Oh no, we couldn't have that....

No one considers that the dinosaurs would have to be alive at the same time as humans for the young earth scenario to work. And yet we’ve not discovered dinosaur bones with spear marks on them, nor human reamins in the gut area of dinosaurs. human and dinosaur remains are not found in the same strata, nor are drawings of dinosaurs in ancient cave paintings(young earth means the paths MUST have crossed).

It’s amazing what happened in the time from 6K years ago to 3K years ago. All the dinosaurs lived and died without interacting with humans. Pure lunacy.

Well, maybe you'd like to share with us your hypothesis for why Tyrannosaurs are found only in late Cretaceous rock. Find one in a Devonian or an Eocene layer, and I think you'd have many scientists reconsider their dating "schemes." Until that time, I don't see how you have a case.

Nah, we just dig a pit, spray him down with sauce and have us a Rex Roast. Dibs on the wishbone.

If you have evidence that the isotopic decay rates are changing over time, do let us know. Wishful thinking just isn't enough...

Really, no one considers that huh?

"...nor are drawings of dinosaurs in ancient cave paintings(young earth means the paths MUST have crossed)."

Really, none at all?

Oh, I know. None of that is acceptable and therefore does not exist.

If you have evidence that isotopic decay rates are constant over time, do let us know. Wishful thinking just isn't enough...

What is the essential difference between your statement and mine?

Chuck Missler at www.Khouse.org has an enormously relevant weekday radio program on KWVE FM. I've heard him discuss DNA as the 'software' and other cells as the 'hardware' ... and heard him propose the concept of DNA possibly being the only crucial original component necessary for the Biblical literal resurrection of the dead, those buried at sea, etc. whose physical molecules are vastly dispersed and recycled since their earthly demise. Fascinating.

Also, I note that the scientists hypothesists are stating as fact T-Rex walked and stalked precisely 68 million years ago.

Well, here we have evidence that either protein decay rates projected back into time are grossly wrong *or* time projections are grossly wrong. Take your pick.

And you think that dating scheme projections are solid?

I don't see how you have a case.

“Pure lunacy.”

Strongly agreed.
The whole young earth thing is embarrassing to see embraced here by some.
Reminds me of moon landing conspiracy and 9/11 hoax nonsense.

I do not understand why some faithful are not happy being people of faith and feel compelled to be obsessed with evidences contrary to their faith. Why bother, I mean faith means exactly that. Faith. Why care? you have already chosen to accept certain things on faith, Who cares what science and evidence say? Their faith is in the literal teachings of their religion. Why debate it? It is not like anyone ever changes their theological beliefs of a lifetime based on an internet thread.
