Current and Former Republicans Line Up for Obama
FoxNews ^ | Aug. 12, 2008 | FoxNews

Barack Obama's campaign is rolling out a number of centrist Republicans who are endorsing the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee over Republican rival John McCain - in a show of his ability to win cross-over votes.

A conference call Tuesday featured former Iowa Rep. Jim Leach, former White House intelligence adviser Rita Hauser and former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee, who represented his state as a Republican, but switched to become a Democrat so he could vote for Obama in the primary.

Leach predicted that a lot of Republicans and independents are going to be attracted by Obama's campaign.

The Obama camp also pointed journalists to reports that Fairbanks, Alaska, Mayor Jim Whitaker, a Republican, also has announced his support for Obama.

There should be a test or initiation to become a Republican instead of just announcing yourself as one so you can have some advantage or other in your first election...

f. They believe that support for John Sidney McCain will cause the Republicans to give us more lefties like him, that he will destroy the Republican Party.
g. They fear John Sidney has severe mental problems.

It might have helped if Obama could get a name that even 25% of Americans could recognize. I mean, Jim Leach?? He was a total disaster as Finance Committee chair and went along with the libs on virtually everything for years.

McCain must be frustrated because he can’t “cross the aisle” this time.

The name (or label) "Republican" does not equal (nor necessarily describe) "Conservative."

Therefore, the title does not (and cannot) read: "Current and Former Conservatives Line Up for Obama"

Probably Snowe, Collins, Chaffee, Specter, Voinavich and Hatch are all lining up for Obama as well.

The press is repeating this sort of story so much anymore as part of their propoganda, that the polls have to be showing that dems in bigger and bigger numbers are backing McCain.

Leach is a good name for that one. Boy, is he in Obamaeo’s “dream world” if he thinks a lot of Republicans and independents are going to be attracted by Obama’s campaign.

Probably 'e'.

Democrats can always dig up some 'moderate' Republican officeholders that will endorse them to use as window-dressing and claim 'bi-partisan' support. It probably fools some of the uninformed electorate who have little idea that a one-term senator such as Lincoln Chaffe was always far closer to the Democrats than he ever was to the GOP. This is the price the Republican party pays for tolerating lukewarm, 'moderate', almost-a-Democrat politicians running under the GOP banner just to keep the Republican party's numbers up in the congress or statehouses.

Oh, wait, that would include Senator John McCain. Never mind.

Those aren’t “centerists”. See the effort to manufacture Oessiah as a “Centerists” in under way in the Establishement Media.
