Is there a Plan B for the state budget if California's Proposition 30 fails?
Sacramento Bee ^ | 11/4/12 | Kevin Yamamura

Gov. Jerry Brown has framed it as a simple choice for voters: Pass Proposition 30 or schools will suffer early shutdowns and college students will pay higher tuition.

But education leaders privately have discussed fallback efforts to spare schools from some of the worst consequences, especially after the initiative fell below 50 percent in recent polls.

School groups are expected to lobby hard to reverse or ease budget reductions headed their way if voters reject Proposition 30. They have two main paths: the Capitol or the courts.

"The education community will use every tool at its disposal to fight the cuts," said Kevin Gordon, a longtime K-12 lobbyist.

Brown insists the budget is a closed book. He says he will not revisit the prescribed cuts to education, so schools must deal with less funding this year if voters reject Proposition 30. He promises to be a stubborn gatekeeper, no matter how hard education forces lobby.

"The cuts are in the budget, the law of California," Brown said Thursday in San Francisco. "They cannot be changed unless the Legislature wants to reverse it and the governor signs the bill, and I won't sign the bill. You can take that to the bank."

CA will never have enough money to educate and feed Mexico’s children.

Most of the people I have talked to, do not want to vote themselves a hefty tax increase. I surely do not.

Then why did they vote for Gov. Moonbeam 2 years ago?

Well my plan B would be to vote out the tax and spend politicians......but that’s just me.

Because the Republican ran to his left. At least Brown promised not to raise taxes without a vote of the people. The Republican never signed the no-new-taxes pledge and never even matched Brown’s promise.

Moonbeam (third time is a charm) is plan B.

Truth is, it is a lousy plan.

So “some education officials” think that Brown can wiggle out of this by assuming that more tax money will come in? Wow. What are they basing that assumption on? Any rational person looking at California would have to think money from state taxes is going to decline as more businesses leave the state. Oh.....they’re betting on that choom tax. That’s where you smoke some choom and suddenly everything seems more mellow and all the people will be cool with raising their taxes. Choom for all!!!

Plan B:

1. Fire all but a few of the administrators
2. Cram the students into as few buildings as possible and sell/lease the empty "edifices to ego" to private industry
3. Eliminate all remedial courses at the college level and force students who aren't ready back to junior colleges
4. etc.

Who gives a damn. The school system has been and always will be pumping out little liberal communist Democrats anyway. As long as we have Democrats running California there is no hope for this State.

Plan A is a federal bailout. There is no plan B.

Everything else is theater.

Money and control are to government as heroin and cocaine to addicts.

President Mitt Romney to CA Congressional delegation and State leadership early in Jan ‘13—”Not one thin dime, no bailout, no waiver,no nothing until the State enacts x,y,z, reforms.”. No downside, no electoral college votes. Upside is enhanced economy.

I agree. I’m no longer concerned about California’s education establishment as who in their right mind would tax themselves to pay for the education of alien invaders?

Fire 90% of school administrators and eliminate all their fringe benefits.

Make it when I went to school in the 40s where the minimum class size was 43 and if smaller was combined with another class.

maintain absolute discipline in the classroom with spanking suspension and failing grades which would eliminate the need for at least half of the so called teachers!

Hmm, so you mean the democrats were lying and blackmailing the citizens of California? Well, people get what they deserve - just keep voting California off a cliff.
