Teams from a US Army brigade heading to 35 African nations to beef up anti-terror training
Fox/AP ^ | 24 December 2012 (convenient time to report this)

Posted on 01/12/2013 11:39:32 AM PST by Lorianne

A U.S. Army brigade will begin sending small teams into as many as 35 African nations early next year, part of an intensifying Pentagon effort to train countries to battle extremists.

The teams will be limited to training and equipping efforts, and won't be permitted to conduct military operations without specific, additional approval from the secretary of defense.

The sharper focus on Africa by the U.S. comes against a backdrop of widespread insurgent violence across North Africa, and as the African Union and other nations discuss military intervention in northern Mali.

Not about terrorism. We should not be training anyone in Africa for anything.

A U.S. Army brigade will begin sending small teams ...

How small?

... into as many as 35 African nations early next year, part of an intensifying Pentagon effort to train countries to battle extremists.

Correction: To counter China's 30+ year involvement in Africa development and influence

The teams will be limited to training and EQUIPPING...

... yeah, right, what could go wrong?

The sharper focus on Africa by the U.S. comes against a backdrop of widespread insurgent violence across North Africa ...

Which is our problem why?

... and as the African Union and other nations discuss military intervention in northern Mali.

Let the French take care of Mali. Let the French do something on their own for a change.

This isn’t going to go, or end well.

You are probably right, members of terrorist grups will send people to train and find out how to

Once again our military is being put in harms way with their hands tied behind them. Agent Terry was killed on our border with Mexico because he could not return live fire until he was fired upon.....France in in a heated battle in Mali now having thrown out the United Nations useless hands tied soldiers who can do nothing...35 nations? who asked us....are we trying to keep China or Russia out of Africa?

Anti-terror: Why EVERYONE supports that, right..? How can that be bad..?

SUUUUURE the mission is anti-terror, sure it is...

The African AfroCentrist Prez has cooked up a way to turn military people into crypto, proto Social Workers for, “people in need”.

The West is rich cuz it CHEATED, and Barry is cooking up a way to “even us all out”.

He believes in redistribution domestically and INTERNATIONALLY, and this is a part of that.

They’ll have a trillion of documents and buzzwords to convince you otherwise, of course. They going to be screaming prudence and caution at every turn, and if that doesn’t shut you up, then you’re a racist and you’re proooobably partnered up with Terrorists.

Yeah, they’re going to keep us safe, uh-huh...

The Pentagon’s slogan should be “Training Our Enemies of Tomorrow”.

(and US taxpayers pick up the tab)

This is a TRADOC mission, not a mission for an operational combat unit. A combat brigade is not designed or equipped to break down into small units dispersed over great distances. This is just another indicator of why our admirals and generals should be fired without retirement pay.

I’m sure training on how to protect the procedural rights of terrorists will be near the top of the list.

re: “The R’s and D’s have decided that America be the world policeman. You get what you vote for. The WOT will never end.”

I would support us being the world’s policeman IF we were allowed to use all available force necessary to complete the job.

The biggest problem is that the politicians NEVER let us finish operations militarily - even with WW2, FDR allowed the Soviet Union stay in all the eastern block countries for 70 years - how many millions of people were tortured and murdered by Stalin all because FDR and others were too naive, stupid, or both?

If we are going to police the world from dictators and communism, fine, but allow our soldiers to finish it with all the weaponry and manpower available. Not this “partial-war” or “faux-war” where our men and women in the field are sitting ducks or placed needlessly in harms way because of some stupid ROE our State Dept. feels is necessary.

'If we are going to police the world from dictators and communism, fine'

We disagree. Part of the problems, is the half asses, unDeclared 'War's that we get involved in. If one wants to go to war, fine, Declare it and win it.

Nor does the US even care about communism. We once opposed it in some degree. Now it's good for business in the form of China and other countries that 'we' sign trade deals with. Cheap labor, lower environmental standards, oppression against unions, stopping free speech, those are all qualities that benefit a higher rate of return for investment opportunities.

Then the first thing we should do is get the hell out of the UN .... then bulldoze the building into the East River.

The jingle will be something like,

“Terror thrives in African areas where infrastructure is bad —improve that infrastructure, and you’ll deny cover for terrorists...”

Neat and pretty, huh? We’ll be building roads, hospitals, schools —hot and expensive. Liberals will be happy with this type of “war” because absolutely no US interests are involved —so it’s unselfish and OK.

Things will be rosy for awhile, nice promo shots and headlines. THEN African patterns prevail, and those targets get attacked —tribe A hates tribe B, who is seen as favored under the new arrangements:

THEN our guys start ops that are much more like occupation —manning road-blocks and overwatch at public sites. Then our leaders spout more “3 Block War” hoopla, with fancy slides and papers. There are some engagements.

Then we’re called Imperialists, and they scream we’re just like the Belgians (or British, or French...take your pick).

Then it will be a dozen new little Blackhawk-Downs, with flag-draped coffins, and crying, with Africa remaining exactly as it has been since the start of time.

The one rule we can be pretty sure of is that Muslims are NOT to be defined as terrorists. We will do nothing to stop them from burning churches or killing Christians.

But we might help them, just to show them how nice we are.
