Three New Earth-Size Planets Found "Nearby"
Forbes ^ | 1/18/2015 @ 12:00PM | Eric Mack

Posted on 01/18/2015 2:15:42 PM PST by dila813

The Kepler space telescope has spotted over 1,000 exoplanets beyond our solar system, and its latest finds are three almost Earth-sized planets, including one in the habitable zone circling the star EPIC 201367075, just 150 light years from Earth.

In the cosmic sense, that’s right around the block, making it one of the 10 closest known stars with observed planets in its gravitational hold. Of course, such distances in the cosmic sense also would take many generations to traverse, so don’t invest in real estate there just yet. Still, the relative closeness of this “EPIC” star and its planets provides an advantage for astronomers in studying their atmospheres and potential habitability.

With current technology it takes 4,473 years to travel ONE light year it might take awhile to get there...

But the ideal that the light you are seeing is only a few years old is interesting.

A lot of the planets we look at might not even exist anymore.

So send a Generation Ship. A self-sustaining artificial moonlet with humans on board to spread our seed across the stars.

It should be commanded by someone named, oh, like, Adama.

They will either out such a man as a bigot or a skeptic of their agenda so he will never be a starship commander. We will get someone dumber than Pike to be a commander, and when Khan rises the mutants will take over the world.

I like the earth sized designation a lot better than the “earthlike” crap.

A light year is about 5.8 Trillion miles.
The moon is 1.5 light seconds from earth (240,000 miles).
The sun is 8.3 light minutes from earth (93,000,000 miles).
The nearest star (other than our sun) to earth is “Proxima Centauri”,
and it is abut 4.2 light years away (25,000,000,000,000 miles).
The record for fastest manned spaceflight is 25,000 mph.

Warp drive has been shown mathematically possible. Now we just need to build the engine. Then we could get there in few weeks.

I am not going to live that long, where did this idea come from to travel there?

It was even discounted in the article.

EPIC 201367075 is a dwarf star. The orbital period for these planets are 10-45 days. I’m guessing they’re tidally locked to their star. Has Kepler found any planets yet that aren’t tidally locked? I don’t hold out much hope for tidally locked planets to be habitable but it seems these are the only planets we can find with current technology.

What???? A guy outside the subway station sold me a great lot with an ocean view a couple of days ago. Got a fantastic price on it. Used to be a winter home for the Nigerian Oil Minister.

Didn’t you see this? Some engineer figured out a way to make the math work. We could see a warp drive engine with in our life time!

I saw that, not impressed by that one

But, someone has a working operating warp drive now.

It is at Cal State Fullerton.

Here is the link, it is already here. Just takes a long time to get up to speed.

And plus it's already been done, but going the other direction.
