No, there haven’t been 355 mass shootings this year

After yesterday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, a statistic started making the rounds on social media that claimed there have been 355 mass shootings this year in the U.S. That’s more than one mass shooting per day.

Here’s an article from the Washington Post making the allegation:

The San Bernardino shooting is the 355th mass shooting this year, according to a mass shooting tracker maintained by the Guns Are Cool subreddit. The Reddit tracker defines mass shootings as incidents in which four or more people, including the gunman, are killed or injured by gunfire.

Let that sink in: mass shootings in the U.S. now happen on a more-than-daily basis. The figure was then quoted by other news sites like PolicyMic, which has called for politicizing mass shootings in the past.

The Washington Post’s editorial page editor, Fred Hiatt, has openly called for a “gun free” society where privately owned firearms are banned. The Post newspaper itself has also endorsed gun control.

Which brings us to the question: Have there actually been 355 mass shootings in the United States? Using the FBI’s definition, there have only been 41 mass shootings in the U.S. so far in 2015. The FBI’s definition is the one that’s more accepted by law enforcement. The Post admitted this distinction in its story, yet still chose to trumpet the 355 number.

That statistic also doesn’t take into account the motivation or circumstances of the attacks. It’s a half-truth based on twisted facts and figures intended to promote a political agenda.

Of course not!
Only the sub-60 IQ crowd can believe such irrational dishonest nonsense.

Subtract the eternal violence in large cities with an overwhelming population of subhuman Obama "sons and daughters," and we can discuss the problem outside of the moronic twilight zone of Obama and his flying monkeys.

What's the definition of insanity again?

355 mass shootings so far this year, and we're' only on day 230 or so.

Depends. They had two on the day of the California mass killing day. One in Georgia that was not reported as widely as the killings in California.

Gang shootings probably make up the bulk of mass shootings but I exclude them anyway. They’re a different animal than someone going in and shooting up a mall or something.

I saw something yesterday showing all the mass shootings by state. It showed something like 6 in Michigan since 1993 and 5 of them were gang shootings and the remaining one was a disgruntled school board member was had 1 target but managed to hit others.

Huge numbers of gang shootings distort all the stats.

Liberals decry how many children are killed by guns. Most of the “children” are older teenagers involved with youth gangs.

We really have to know case by case, what the circumstances were in every shooting if we are to make sense out of it. Liberals shooting off their mouths, pardon the pun, about how many shootings there are or how many children are killed, are distorting the true situation.

If this were true about mass shootings, wouldn’t MSM & BHO been mentioning much of the year?

Well if you count the actual number of rounds fired, maybe you could get there. Or even higher.

Mass shootings?

Moose-slimes shooting up a Catholic Service?

I can believe that.

Include World-wide stats.

The definition of a mass shooting is 4 injured/killed including the shooter. That’s how they sway the numbers.

Subtract democrat shooters and muslims and what do we have? Probably close to zero. This is a democrat/muslim problem, and neither group has the willingnes to fix their own.

If they define a mass shooting as over 4 in one day in one place (I think I read that somewhere)...they are including Chicago...home of toughest gun kaws...and the Ones hometown...no wonder he never goes there
