A story that should be getting more attention is one out of the Black Hills of South Dakota. It doesn't get much more interesting than a depredating lion, a 14 year old hunter protecting the family livelihood, and a rifle won at an NRA raffle.
The story has already been written by Tom Griffith. The article is well done. I do not want to steal the author's thunder.

After a long, sad day, Streff’s youngest child, 14-year-old Dalton, who fancies himself a hunter, told his mother he was going to go sit in the backyard and await the return of the beast that had killed their young goat. The 5-foot-10, 130-pound, brown-haired teenager, who had previously completed a hunter’s safety course, brought with him his 30.06-caliber Remington rifle he won last year in an NRA raffle.
Lacking a proper blind in which to shelter himself from approaching critters, Dalton opted instead for a Little Tikes playhouse conveniently located in the backyard. There on a chair he sat, scanning the surrounding woodlands for the killer cat.
I grew up reading the Jim Corbett stories of man eating cats. The famous hunter had those adventures in the India of the British Raj. This young man's adventure has much in common with those stories. A big cat that is a danger to the community. A goat is taken, and the drama begins.
A major difference is the American farmers and villagers have guns and know how to use them. Big cats that become a danger to livestock and humans do not last very long. Young Dalton is to be congratulated for showing grace under pressure, as did 12 year old Alyssa Caldwell

Well I guess he no longer “fancies” himself a hunter.
Unfortunately he’s going to be mobbed on social media by loonies demanding he be murdered for killing such a beautiful creature that would maul the living shyt out of them in the proper circumstances.
Starlings are tough but the lions are made of stone.
He lives in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
He can simply turn off the social media.
I have not read of any attacks against him yet.

Looking at some of the Little Tykes Playhouses it must have been real snug with his long gun.
Has to be a first, using the playhouse as a hide.

I suspect it was at a “Friends of the NRA dinner”. Those are fun events. I was involved in the local event for several years, and we broke state records.
They are where the majority of NRA raffle events for firearms take place. An adult would have had to take possession of the rifle for him.
I wonder who did and the history of it.
The anti-freedom forces in this country want to make it illegal for him to touch that rifle.
In Australia, a special permit is needed for people under 18 to legally touch guns. THat holds for BB guns and air rifles as well.

They are ... cougars have bigger paws compared to body size than domestic cats. This was a juvenile; the proportions are even more exaggerated.
Mr. Streff stepped up and did a man's job, there. That cat would have wrecked the family's livelihood.

Had to read it just to find out what a “NRA rifle” was....Glad to see it went to a deserving young man...
