Hurricane Florence has drenched eastern North Carolina with more than 30 inches of rain, an all-time record for the state.
Last year, Hurricane Maria ravaged the island of Puerto Rico and caused, according to an independent study, nearly 3,000 deaths.
Welcome to the new normal.
Tropical cyclones are nothing new, of course. But climate scientists say that global warming should make such storms wetter, slower and more intense which is exactly what seems to be happening. And if we fail to act, these kinds of devastating weather events will likely become even more frequent and more severe.
Every human being on the planet has a stake in what governments do to limit and adapt to climate change, including those who, like President Trump, prefer to believe global warming is some kind of hoax.
At the very least, we should be trying to reduce carbon emissions and keep global warming to a manageable level. With the landmark Paris Agreement, the nations of the world agreed to try. But Trump foolishly pulled the United States - the worlds second-biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, behind only China - out of the deal.
The administration has already proposed weakening restrictions on carbon emissions from automobiles and coal-fired power plants. And last week, there were reports that the administration also wants to loosen rules governing the release of methane, which traps even more heat than carbon dioxide.
Climate change is no longer theoretical. It is real, it is all around us, and it is going to get much worse.

And didn’t we reduce our emissions, without some ridiculously one-sided penalized agreement, more than any other country, and more than the top 5 others combined? Or did I imagine that report when I read it online.
Climate changes, always has, always will. The crux of their argument is that man has somehow played part in this change. Just like an ant has no lasting impact on the earth, neither does man. Sure, ants can build huge mounds, and even if one was to do so in a dry river bed, but big enough to complete block off the river and become sort of an “ant-dam”, nature will find a way for that water to flow. Nature, uh... finds a way.
Can also be expected from higher levels of cosmic rays, associated with the ongoing decrease in magnetic activity of the sun.
Did Eugene Robinson have a monthly energy-related newsletter called, “Access To Energy”?
And we should get that list of alleged 3000 deaths so we can verify the accuracy of this list. No doubt it will be false.
It’s not even a theory. It’s a political swindle.
I agree its not a theory, its a HYPOTHESIS
“In science, a theory is a tested, well-substantiated, unifying explanation for a set of verified, proven factors. A theory is always backed by evidence; a hypothesis is only a suggested possible outcome, and is testable and falsifiable.”
Anthropomorphic Climate Change does not rise to the level of a Theory... its a HYPOTHESIS.
The issue is not whether the climate gets warmer or cooler. Of course it does. We’ve had ice ages and glaciers before mankind developed.
The debate is whether it is man caused or not. Science cannot or will not resolve that

Bloody Weather!
Aaayyyooop!
Yes. I agree. It’s a political propaganda tool as well.
However, it has nothing to do with the weather, or climate, or change.
“Eugene Robinson: Climate change not just a theory it’s an article of faith!”
There, that’s what he meant to say!

And none of it, NONE, on a global scale is at all affected by anything humans can do. Cities can create small heat sinks, damming rivers can create local lake effect weather, deforestation can affect local humidity levels and aridity. But there is no evidence that human activity is capable of affecting sea levels, the sequence of glaciation and warming of the past few hundreds thousands of years, etc.
We and our existence don't amount to a pimple on a horse's @$$ (we're only one species out of many thousands exhaling CO2 on this rock) except in rigged computer models, the minds of journalist jerk offs who've never read an actual science book, money grubbing grant seekers, and politicians playing the forever gambit of fomenting panic in order to increase power, control, and the money going into their own pockets.
Frankly, if any of them are real believers in this nonsense, and serious about reducing the human impact on the "climate", I'd be delighted to help them do the right thing. I'm sure most of us would be willing to assist. All they have to do is ask.
Like a lot of people, I believe in climate change. I see it happening 4 times a year. We even have winter here in Florida. This year it was on a Thursday.
It is a fact and only $10.00 a gallon gasoline will solve it and that will only be temporary. </s>
The changes are as well documented as evolutionary ones are!
