Rod Rosenstein’s departure was imminent. Now he is likely to survive until after the midterms
Washington Post ^

Rod J. Rosenstein’s departure seemed so certain this week that his boss’s chief of staff told colleagues that he had been tapped by the White House to take over as second-in-command of the Justice Department, while another official would supervise the special counsel probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, people familiar with the matter said.

But by Monday afternoon, the succession plan had been scrapped. Rosenstein, who told the White House he was willing to quit if President Trump wouldn’t disparage him, would remain the deputy attorney general in advance of a high-stakes meeting on Thursday to discuss the future of his employment. The other officials, too, would go back to work, facing the prospect that in just days they could be leading the department through a historic crisis.

Inside the Justice Department on Tuesday, officials still struggled to understand the events that nearly produced a seismic upheaval in their leadership ranks — until it didn’t — and they braced for a potential repeat of that chaos later in the week.

“Too many “conservatives” have no patience at all...”

I agree. Although the monday morning panic at the DOJ and the idiotic leaks is grounds for firing all by itself IMO.

It’s the same panic reaction that got RR into trouble after the Comey firing.

The world is not going to come to an end if the A/DAG is not announced until after lunch !

All the elected Dems and all liberals genuinely do not want RR fired. Pro Trump conservatives do want RR fired.

But this leak came from somewhere else. The NYT says they have been working on this story for almost a year.

Someone else other than Trump supporters wants RR gone, and Trump needs to consider who and why that is before he fires RR.

Personally I think it is Mueller. If he and his gang has nothing, and they want to stop Trump at all costs (like RR et al. did after the Comey firing) they might leak something like the McCabe memos.

Why incur the political flack from firing him? He’ll have to quit or be removed when the unredacted Carter Page FISA warrant is released. The full document is prima facie evidence of a crime, and his signature is on it.

He can’t be both investigator and investigat-ee.

So you’re telling me that all deepstate has to do is keep the phony investigation propped up and chuggin along for 4 years and they can control Trump with vauge apparitions of “obstruction of justice” in order to forestall their own indictments?

I would say a strategy of worrying about obstruction of justice accusations from corrupt FBI, CIA and NSA personel who are themselves in dire danger of being indicted is a loosing strategy. That’s like corrupt thugs threatening to call the police on you if you dare think about calling the police on them for trying to extort you. This is where intestinal fortitude is required of Trump.

If Trump is true blue, he’ll fire Sessesions AND Roenstein and start handing out indictments to take these corrupt personell down. If Trump doesn’t, then I’m afraid that puts him also in the suspect pool of deepstate players. Sorry, but thems is the facts as I see it.

Re: “Rod J. Rosenstein’s departure seemed so certain this week that his boss’s chief of staff told colleagues that he had been tapped by the White House to take over as second-in-command of the Justice Department...”

Please tell me this is a sick joke or a lie.

After Jeff Sessions recused himself, Trump still nominated Rod Rosenstein to be Deputy A.G., even though Rosenstein had worked for Obama for eight years.

Only six Democrat Senators voted against Rosenstein.

Rosenstein then appointed Mueller, who was Obama’s FBI Director. Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer and RINO Senator Rob Portman publicly praised Mueller.

Rosenstein then let Mueller run wild for 15 months.

Now, Trump wants to give the Deputy A.G. job to Rosenstein’s Chief of Staff?

If true, that is totally sick.

It is my understanding that the 3rd in line at DOJ was recently let go SO her replacement would be ready to step into RR’s position!!! It is my understanding that this guy can’t remember his name is a staunch conservative and a stand up guy!!! He was NOT RR’s chief of staff!!!

Re: “He was NOT RR’s chief of staff!!!”

I re-read the first sentence in the article, and I think you are right.

“...his boss's chief-of-staff...”

Are they talking about Jeff Sessions’ Chief of Staff?

If so, I have some confidence that Sessions’ Chief of Staff might be OK politically - but not 100% confidence.

“...his boss's chief-of-staff...”

So his boss is Sessions. Sessions' CoS is Matthew Whitaker, who has called the Russia Investigation a "Witch Hunt" and was critical of Mueller when he investigated Trump family finances, so he might be good. From other reporting, the standard succession would see the Solicitor General, Noel Francisco, take the DAG job, and he is also reputed to be a solid conservative. Sounds like either would be far better than Rosenstein.

That's very good news.

Trump's record of filling jobs with Obama hold overs, or with RINOs who get 100% support from Senate Democrats, has been the most disheartening aspect of Trump's presidency.

The guys name is Jesse Panuiccio he was put in place as associate AG earlier this year by Trump after terminating a woman that held that position!!! He is 37 years old and it is believed that Trump made this move so this person could step in when RR was let go, and the position could just be a promotion with no appointment necessary no confirmation necessary!!! The ground work in place already for draining the swamp!!! As far as Sessions is concerned if we gain seats in the senate confirmation for AG shouldn’t be a problem!!!

I think the deep state want Rod to be fired and thus the news popping up the last few days starting with that NYT article.

Exactly. It's a trap, and Trump is not falling for it.

The Deep State was trying to goad Trump into firing Rat Rosenstein so they could derail the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh in the Senate. They would have used parliamentary procedures to shut the Senate completely down under the guise of a "Constitutional crisis" so that a floor vote would not take place.

Remember: Kasich slipped during an interview and said that John McCain was "put to death."

CNN - Kasich Saying John McCain Was Put to Death

Senator Lindsey Graham (a retired Air Force full Colonel and military JAG) questioned Judge Kavanaugh specifically on the Constitutionality of using military tribunals to prosecute civilians:

Senator Lindsey Graham Questions Brett Kavanaugh Military Law vs Criminal Law

The Deep State got the message, loud and clear - if Kavanaugh gets in, the Supreme Court majority will rule that the Deep State can be prosecuted and even executed for treason and sedition.

They are pulling out all the stops against Kavanaugh, not only because of Abortion, but because they fear that justice may finally be done regarding their many crimes.

Very important video of Graham and Kavanaugh.

No wonder the deep state is pulling out all stops to stop this confirmation!

Thank you for posting this.

According to Wikipedia, Rachel Brand quit because she did not want to deal with the SC being dropped in her lap. She either knew what was going on or couldn’t stand RR.

Hold your friends close, and your enemies closer...also the enemy (Rod) of my enemy (McCabe) is my friend.

Trump, after castling, making a 4D Knight-takes-Rook here to pin the Bishop and allow Lady Liberty (the Queen) free roam on the board.

Nice of Rod to reveal himself as a beta male ("I'll wear a wire, promise! What about the 25th Amendment, guyzzz? Just give me Sessions slot!")

Partner, Rod Rosenstein will not be our Deputy Attorney General after tomorrow

Or as a former boss of mine would say, "His ass is sucking pond water."

Since the mainstream media were almost unanimously wrong in their reporting on this, you are likely correct.

I always thought it wouldn’t be until after midterms.

But he could be reassigned within doj because of his conflicts.

This would suggest Mueller better get his report out before he gets shitcanned
