Judge orders Georgia to count all votes in contested governor’s race

A Georgia federal judge ruled in favor of Democrat Stacey Abrams’ campaign Monday night, ordering election officials to review thousands of provisional ballots that have not been counted in the contested election for governor.

Judge Amy Totenberg, a New Yorker who serves on the Atlanta-based court, said that the race cannot be officially certified until those ballots were counted.

Many voters have complained they were told at polling stations they weren’t registered and had to file provisional ballots.

Abrams would need to gain more than 20,000 votes to force a runoff against Republican Brian Kemp.

... and the sister of a media enemy.

Way to build public confidence in the system. Her sister’s political activities should have forced a recusal, but the Left never recuses on conflicts.

Count all votes. Included those filled in by election officials, and votes from illegals and dead people!

The court defined this order as “modest relief” and found in justification for its issuance the following:

“The statistical evidence of the increase in the provisional ballot rate for the 2018 general election is of a sufficient degree of significance that the Court can conclude with confidence that the variation was not due to natural fluctuation, but was instead reasonably likely to have been the result of persistent problems and/or errors in the State’s voter registration system and ineffective administration of the provisional balloting scheme.”

The bottom line is that this order — while likely to be trumpeted by Ms. Abrams and her allies — is more focused on preserving documentation for the next phase of expected litigation than in altering the likely outcome of the vote counting process.

You don’t understand, we actually know how many ballots are remaining, there aren’t any more to “find” at this point. The media is running interference for Abrams, when she has mathematically been eliminated at this point.

Her argument is breathtakingly stupid. There aren’t enough ballots out there to put her in the lead, regardless of what the Twitter trash true believers have been saying.

Kemp has a lead of 57,818. Did you know it was that high? I bet you didn’t because the media isn’t talking about it.

She’s not even trying to find enough ballots to take a lead, because it’s impossible. (There was a Libertarian spoiler in the Governor’s race that took 37,174 votes Statewide.)

She’s actually trying to make the absurd argument that if she can get to within several thousand votes of pushing Kemp under 50% that she can force a runoff.

Then she wants to try to have a recount to force a runoff. Georgia law simply doesn’t allow for that.

You can’t recount a race to see if a runoff happens.

There are approximately 20K ballots to review. Even if every single one of them went to Abrams, and we push her total to 1,938,883, Kemp would still have 50.00814621% of the total.

No runoff.

What she’s trying to do is to get to that number, and then claim that she can recount all the votes, even though Kemp is over 50%.

We just have to trust that both interested parties have representation in this so-called matter and Kemp’s people will not allow illegal votes.

MT and AZ were different situations. Those were ballots from election day that still hadn’t been counted.

FL and GA are two entirely different situations from those two.

Both MT and AZ were legitimate losses for the GOP. Better candidates would have won and it sucks, because it’s a six year term. This is very different and I’d argue that GA and FL are also very different. I don’t think the Florida fraud squad is even trying to help Gillum.... this is all about the Senate and blocking more Conservative judges/justices, because well, Romney.

Bush v. Gore is the operative precedent.

Any such ruling violates the Republican’s rights under the 14th Amendment.

Al Gore’s little misadventure needs to be crammed back down the Democrats’ piehole every chance we get.

Exactly. There is a time limit on when ballots are to be canvassed to prevent fraud. The more time given to “count” ballots the more time to invent them. If the statutes are clear the judge is supposed to GO BY THE WRITTEN and not make crap up based on whining by losers.

I am doubtful that so many were told at the polls they were not registered and had to cast provisional ballots. I think people are being told to say that.

GA governor corruption. Lester Maddox,

As governor, Maddox surprisingly appointed more African-Americans to state positions than all previous governors combined.

Which is why is sucked to lose Montana, Arizona, Nevada, West Virginia, and others that were winnable. Oh, and Alabama last year. GOP should have 60 seats at this point.

Governor Abrams ... Lets all say it together.

If they are still counting votes AFTER the polls supposedly closed, all good Republs should go bact to their polling places and get another ballot or to, fill it out and submit it.

Strange how folks who did not have it together enough to register to vote, but care enough to vote provisional ballot. in my opinion, this large count of provisional ballots is a dem insurance policy in case it was needed.
