Look, the case has been made. Almost everything in the impeachment hearings this week fleshed out and backed up the charge that President Trump muscled Ukraine for political gain. The pending question is what precisely the House and its Democratic majority will decide to include in the articles of impeachment, what statutes or standards they will assert the president violated.
What was said consistently undermined Mr. Trump’s case, but more deadly was what has never been said. In the two months since Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry was under way and the two weeks since the Intelligence Committee’s public hearings began, no one, even in the White House, has said anything like, “He wouldn’t do that!” or “That would be so unlike him.” His best friends know he would do it and it’s exactly like him.

Well, yes, they have no case IN THE SENSE that Trump didn't do anything wrong.
Making the last ditch in this matter "no quid pro quo" is the same error as making Nixon's last ditch "he didn't know about it".
Once you choose the last ditch, you have to defend it 100%.
A US President putting pressure on foreign leaders is normal behavior. No foreign leader has the rights and privileges of a US citizen. All normal diplomatic behavior could be characterized as extortion, bribery, or other nefarious activities if they were carried out in the domestic sphere against US citizens.
The correct defense for Trump is NOT "no quid pro quo". Of course Trump wanted something from Ukraine, and of course the expectation of Ukraine getting something in return was implicit in the phone call, or else, why do it?
The correct defense was that this was normal Presidential behavior, that he was well within his rights to do it, that the State Department, the NSC, the CIA, and the press do. not make US foreign policy, the President does, "you're goddam right I ordered the Code Red", and impeach me if you dare.
Noonan is using the wrong word in muscled to explain that word in a normal conversation between two heads of state that past presidents from around the world have done...think of Obama and his talks with the Russian President, the President of Kenya...think back at FDR and what he must have said to Stalin or Churchill....Presidents talk to all heads of state and others however, never in my wildest dreams would I have believed their "private" conversations where shared by so many.
Pelosi is practicing sedition...and dragging the remnants of the Democrat Party with her. Pelosi is wrong.
