'People will sit at home': Sanders supporters threaten to boycott election if Democrats pick Biden

Bernie Sanders supporters are warning that a lack of enthusiasm for Joe Biden could bring about the same result that nominating another establishment Democrat did four years ago: electing Donald Trump.

Sanders backers fret the socialist Vermont senator, 78, is being consistently ignored and underestimated by Beltway insiders and a Washington-based press corps — the same bunch, in their view, who failed to predict Trump's 2016 White House win and were sure Hillary Clinton, who beat Sanders for the Democratic nomination, would easily prevail.

They're particularly steamed Sanders, a socialist who has been in Congress since 1991, isn't getting his due though he's proven to have staying power in public opinion and fundraising, even after suffering a heart attack last October. As of last week, he leads a tight four-horse race in Iowa ahead of the first-in-the-nation caucuses on Feb. 3, raising a record figure of $34.5 million in the final financial quarter of 2019 for a total of $96 million.

Nominating a career center-left candidate such as Biden, the former vice president and 36-year Delaware senator, would dampen enthusiasm by the liberal populist grassroots, Sanders backers contend.

“...[Dems] could bring about the same result that nominating another establishment Democrat did four years ago: electing Donald Trump.”

There is no doubt in my Military Mind that PDJT will be re-elected. Of course, vote, vote, VOTE - but it’s still going to happen.

I have never, in my lifetime, seen the Socialists in such disarray!

And, I love it! :)

P.S.. 0bama, Mittens, McCain, Bush, et al, ALSO had a helluvalot to do with President Trump winning! It’s going to be really hard from here on out to hold my nose and vote for any ‘establishment’ GOPer.

I’m picturing a few thousand Sanders supporters with bandaged tongues.

Bern he should run on a 3rd party ticket. Trump could flip a blue state or two.

The disaffection of Sanders supporters was one of the key reasons Trump won. There is no doubt this had a major impact in the swing states. There is little doubt that Sanders is (again) a poison pill for the democrats going into 2020.

He could legitimately win the nomination, which spells certain defeat in the general. The democrats are (again) playing games to prevent him from being the nominee and his voters will be upset again.

This receives little note or conversation in the media, but it is a major event for 2020.

The DNC has few good options with Sanders who ironically by his presence as the most socialist candidate will contribute to the election of the most capitalistic freedom loving President in my lifetime (again).

More good news.

How can we help put the lying communist and his voters on the side lines?

Sanders was cheated out of the 2016 selection. Hillary Clinton and the DNC openly conspired to send Bernie home early. He took his beating like a good dog and went on to support Hillary.

Not this time. I recently read that if Bernie is in fact not selected through the primary process: or if Hillary goes on to steal the nomination at the convention then Bernie will break away from the party and run as a third-party candidate.

Oh won’t that be fun?

I love, love, love that the corrupt dems are going to take down the crazy communist. It’s funny, because it’s where the dems want to take the country anyway, but for some reason they don’t want the crazy communist at the helm. Perhaps they are aware that, in the general, they have to disguise their Stalinist views, and Bern is too old and too angry and too through-and-through commie to pull that off.

I hope that Biden wins Super Tuesday and closes it down. Lets have 6 months of Uncle Joe.

Bernie would be just as easy to beat, but it would not be as much fun. Bernie, while a crazed commie, is dedicated. You cannot beat passion.

Uncle Joe is simply, and seriously, demented.

This next election could be the ugliest. Democrat candidates are foolish America haters

Biden is so compromised. He and his family are mafia like but without the brains. As soon as they’re of no value to the Dems they’ll be outed by the media

Sanders’ sense of economics is sillier than that of a teen high on dope

Warren is a flailing, desperate liar

Hillary and Siri’s have nothing to work with

They might rig the senate and the house elections

There is little reason to believe that Nominee Sanders would cause a split in the dem party. It would be hilarious but illustrative to see how, if sanders is nominated, democrats declare him the best thing since sliced bread. the worship would be universal, however nauseating. It would just be democrats being themselves.

I'm torn on this Bernie in a third-party run. If he runs third-party, President Trump's re-election is assured but the Bernie lunatic voters could cause some problems down the ticket. If he doesn't run, President Trump likely wins anyway and there is a much better chance to win those down-the-ballot races and possibly win back the House. I'm leaning toward the latter being the best alternative but the first one sure would be fun as Bernie, being the vindictive ass that he is, would likely attack the Democrat more than Trump (although he has more than enough anger to take on both).

We read recently that 10% of Sanders supporters voted for Trump last time. My bet is many, many more do so this time. If the nominee ain’t Biden blacks may well stay home. If 20% of North Philly goes Trump they won’t reap that additional 10% they usually get when North Philly votes 110% and that goes for all those black precincts that always get away with voting >100%. So as things sit right now IMHO the Rats are scheduled for an ass whooping and as more of them begin to admit #FusionColusion I suspect the numbers to drift even lower. Trump could very well get 50 state’s EVs.

The threat would be more impressive if he said that if Biden was the nominee, his followers would commit mass suicide.

In either case, it’s not going to happen.

We should never assume Pres Trump will win.

We should always assume the side will do whatever it takes to win and that we never have a safe bet.

I believe a lot of Republicans in VA thought it was all fine and dandy and that sooooo many Republicans would vote that they didn’t need to go vote.

Never, ever, ever bet earthly good will win to such an extent.

What the Lord giveth He can take away.

Yes. I believe that in my heart and soul and have seen it happen up front and personal.

No analytics, just watching Presidential elections since 1972. I truly think the Dems know that Trump will win in a landslide, and right now they're trying to make sure they hold on to the House and try to pick seats up in the Senate.

The only candidate who will get any sort of African-American support is Joe Biden. I think the Sanders supporters will get ewscrayed again. That African-American support will be vital down ticket for the Dems. You nominate Buttigeg, Princess Grey Beaver, or Komrade Sanders, blacks will stay at home even more than tney will with Biden.

Any nominee besides Biden for the Dems will result in a veto-proof House and filibuster-proof Senate for President Donald Trump and the Republicans.
