Covid-19: The Reality Show has taken cable TV by storm. The plot is nominally about a war against an invisible Chinese invader that has already killed over 1,200 Americans. But on another level, it is a family sitcom, a successor to Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It to Beaver, and The Cosby Show.
The star is Daddy Donald, a brilliant if erratic father figure, who sometimes rambles on, as fathers are wont to do. He is ably supported by his younger brother, Uncle Mike, who is loyal, steady, competent, and boring. With every strand of his snow-white hair perfectly in place, Uncle Mike always says the right thing. He is as predictable as Donald is unpredictable. Consequently, we pay more attention to Donald, wondering what he will do next. Donald understands this and cultivates his reputation for unpredictability.
After a generation in which males, especially TV fathers, were portrayed as bumbling fools, Donald breaks the stereotype. He is a wartime president who appeals to about half the population, mostly male, as a decisive and creative leader who says what we had been thinking but were afraid to say.
Donalds co-star is Dr. Deborah Birx, an HIV/AIDS expert from the State Department who was brought in to coordinate the federal governments response to the coronavirus.
Dr. Birx exudes competence, as well as sensitivity, which is a rare combination. She has never heard a question, no matter how vapid, that wasnt a very good question, as far as she was concerned. She teaches her children patiently and sincerely in words that they can understand, but respectfully, without talking down to them. She is the empathetic mother figure who calms the situation and holds the family together.

Trump’s advantage and America’s advantage are the same thing.
President Trump was a builder in his first career, and a showman in his second. A showman who’s fortune was based on his ability to select winners and judge character. His track record is not 100% but when the chips are down as they are now, he’s surrounded himself with a team of all-stars who accomplish the #1 job of all employees: to do their jobs while making the boss look good.
Pretty good imagination.
I liked it.
There’s more of that projection again.
I liked this article. Sure analogies can go to far, but here the author has a grasp of reality.
What’s great, is the same media who griped for months that Trump didn’t have enough press conferences, are now in the position of saying exactly the opposite. Hypocrisy that would otherwise be stunning is what we have grown to expect from the democrats’ MSM.
Spectator is to Trump what The Rolling Stone is to any Dem Presidential candidate.
BINGO!
A Twitter guy @MNJim brought this to my attention:
Trump is now getting credit with the suburban moms for keeping them and their kids safe.
Remember 2004, how Bush got credit with suburban moms for keeping their families safe from Islamic Whackadoodles? That is now swinging in Trump’s direction as well.
It he carries the suburban vote, this is a massive landslide.
Im a senior and honestly feel that President Trump is the best in my lifetime. Countless people I know speak of their love for our President. Ive never heard people refer to any President in those words.
Good actors and acting. Music for just one song Waltzing Matilda is very good. Possibly the worst scientific basis for major movie ever.
Oh there is a lot of competition out there...
I agree. When I’m asked, I reply: Washington, Coolidge, Reagan and Trump.
In retrospect, I’m re-evaluating my thoughts about Eisenhower. Though I voted for Stevenson, I see Ike as a man for the times; he was a calming, trusted influence during the turbulent, Cold War years, just as Trump is the man for our times.
actually pence is more like an evangelical preacher imho. he exudes hope, optimism, unity, reliability, gratitude, and loyalty. he has one and only one expression: confidence. he is somewhat boring, but he gets all of his important points across with credibility. he carefully makes no enemies. and he always defers to trump. pence is constantly preaching the message: everyone needs to get on board, follow trump, defeat the enemy (in this case, covid-19, not the devil).
I'm impressed with the task force: VP Pence, Dr. Brix, Dr. Fauci, et al. I think they're doing a good job.
As someone who watched to shows I can attest the characterization of each of the Trump (Medical) Family are spot on!
I was laughing about half-way through at the descriptions!
It was a good, funny and accurate description of each team/family member.
Especially the idiots. LOL
Well said about Pence. He’s a good man.
