Arizona sues Google over tracking user location data without consent

Arizona sued Google this week, alleging the big tech company engaged in deceptive and unfair business practices to obtain users’ location data for advertising purposes in order to gain a profit.

The 50-page complaint alleges Google tracks the location of its users even if the consumer had disabled the tracker.

After a roughly two-year probe, Arizona says Google also makes it confusing and increasingly difficult for a consumer to opt-out of the tracking and information collection.

“While Google users are led to believe they can opt-out of location tracking, the company exploits other avenues to invade personal privacy,” Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a press release Wednesday.

“It’s nearly impossible to stop Google from tracking your movements without your knowledge or consent."

Arizona began investigating the tech company after The Associated Press published an article in August of 2018 titled, “Google tracks your movements, like it or not.”

Google’s location history service is detailed in the article, which allows users to see where they have been. But the article said despite users being told they can turn off the location history function, the information was still stored and used for ad sales.

Why does it have to take years to investigate and then file a suit such as this?

Who are the recipients of the suit settelment, the citizens or state government?

The “Right to Privacy” is written into the CA State Constitution.
Google is violating CA Constitution.

Tucker Carlson did a segment on Google tracking where he sent a staffer to several locations in Washington with one phone in airplane mode and another one turned off. Google still got the location information from both phones.

That's why I have never left home with my phone since the lockdowns. Always left it at home. Google can't know where I am with no phone on my person.

About 18 months ago, my phone battery died and I didn’t recharge it. My daughter who lives with me, has a phone, people I care about know how to reach me.

Google learned how to do this and tested it for the tracking support they developed for the Chinese Communists

I have a brand new high quality cell phone that’s only 2 years old, the reason I say a 2 year old phone is brand new is because it’s somewhere in the house (not sure where), I have never used it and never carried it with me when I go anywhere.

My wife bought it for me and I just smiled at her and said thank you.

She knows that I am a true Luddite when it comes to new technology, if it’s got gears, or you wind it up and it goes tic-tok I’ll use it, otherwise not so much.
