More drugmakers recall metformin products after finding they contain carcinogen

Two more drugmakers have recalled their metformin products following an FDA warning that it found unacceptable levels of a carcinogen in the drugs.

Lupin Pharmaceuticals, based in Mumbai, India, is recalling all lots of its metformin extended-release tablets after finding certain batches were above the acceptable daily intake level for N-Nitrosodimethylamine, NDMA, a carcinogen.

Metformin is the generic name for a type of drug that is used to improve blood glucose control in adults with Type 2 diabetes.

Granules Pharmaceuticals, based in Hyderabad, India, is recalling 12 lots of its metformin tablets for the same reason.

Neither drugmaker said they had received adverse event reports related to the recall.

The FDA said in late May that it had found unacceptable levels of NDMA in metformin. The impurity was originally found by online pharmacy Valisure in early March.

Five other drugmakers recalled their metformin products in June after the agency's announcement.

Sorry about your mom.

My mother has been on metformin for around four or five years. I have noticed some cognitive decline and my sister, who rarely speaks to her, has even remarked to me about my mother’s memory.

She’s still functional, but is gradually becoming more forgetful. And, at certain times, she angers very easily and blames me for something that she has done. Nothing is ever her fault.

I was curious if your mom’s symptoms started out that way. Between the dementia and this newly discovered cancer link, maybe metformin isn’t the answer.

My mother had colon cancer surgery in ‘91 and cancer is rampant in my family.

Best of luck to you.

Been teetering at A1C1 at 7 for 2 yrs, I’ve GASTROPARESIS SLOW DIGESTION, NO FIBER DIET is the only treatment, 8 months ago tripped to 8.1, Diabetic diet is high Fiber, I can’t digest. No middle ground. #4 med failed, Endo doesn’t read my reaction list, even a simple UT or Yeast can’t be treated by the normal means, those drugs are on my reaction list. Jardiance is #4 worse of the 4. 3 weeks of misery first skin yeast infection, then UT. Idiot PA prescribed Bactrim,..sulfur based, for UT, computer kicked it out. No Mycin either. cillin’s only.

So BS is wild.

What is the difference in Lisinopril and Triamterene/hctz 37.5/25 (Dyazide)

Have to use a private Pharmacy instead of Navy Base, and they don’y always have the full script.

I’m the queen of reactions, Jardiance is the worse he could have chosen, None of the mild side effects can be treated, been through this before when the old ditched PCP had dirty specimen cups, Full URO work up, not 1 UT, plenty of reactions to Mycian’s, Sulfur’s, Yeast drugs. And this crap has already given me a Yeast skin infections. Had a Skin Yeast and a UT in 3 weeks. Hard to treat with Amoxicillin.

Gastropresis is slow digestion NO FIBER, Diabetic is opposite, no place in the middle add in Diverticulosis not much left to actually eat. NO Soy, grapefruit, broccoli family it interferes with my Hypothyroid med. I’m Screwed.
