Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. told a federal court Monday that his office was pursuing a broad inquiry into possible fraud by President Donald Trump and his private businesses, based on reports that had appeared in the media.
The New York Times reported:
The Manhattan district attorney’s office suggested on Monday that it has been investigating President Trump and his company for possible bank and insurance fraud, a significantly broader inquiry than the prosecutors have acknowledged in the past.The links above all refer to reporting by the New York Times, which apparently is the source for Vance’s claims of possible fraud.(snip)
In the new filing, the prosecutors did not directly identify the subject of their inquiry. But they said that “undisputed” assertions in earlier court papers and several news reports about Mr. Trump’s business practices showed that the office had a wide legal basis for the subpoena.

They cited newspaper investigations that concluded the president may have illegally inflated his net worth and the value of his properties to lenders and insurers. They also included an article on the congressional testimony of his former lawyer and fixer, Michael D. Cohen, who told lawmakers last year that the president had committed insurance fraud. Lawyers for the president have denied wrongdoing.
Vance’s filing comes after the Supreme Court ruled in a pair of cases last month that the president could not demand that local prosecutors meet a heightened burden for an ordinary subpoena, but that Congress did not have the right to demand whatever documents it wanted of the president.

Inflating the worth of things is highly subjective. Trump doesn’t go to a bank and say “I am worth 3 billion. Lend me this much money”. It’s up to the bank to verify the worth

Didn’t the NY Attorney General run for office saying that getting Trump and his family would be her highest priority? You can take it to the bank, when he leaves office, they will try to put him in jail.

First of all, inflating your net worth for insurance purposes means you're paying higher premiums than you would otherwise. This is even more applicable to property insurance -- where an insurance company is going to insure a property for the replacement value of the property. This would be tied to an appraisal, but the insurance appraisal isn't going to change just because of the name on the building. Trump can legitimately claim that a $250 million luxury residential tower in Manhattan is worth $400 million because it's called "Trump Tower" or something like that, but that's only for marketing purposes and has nothing to do with the cost of replacing the building if it falls down.
This has similar applicability to the banking industry. They may legitimately extend a loan on a $250 million building based on an appraised "branded" value of $400 million. So what? That's an issue for the bank's appraisers and lending officers to deal with. If Donald Trump is the criminal all these morons make him out to be, then what kind of moron in the banking industry would even give him the time of day?
On top of all this ... I'm curious to know what kind of "insurance fraud" could possibly be under consideration here. Has Trump or the Trump Organization ever filed an insurance claim?
Plant a story in the gaslight media and use it as probable cause.

Apparently, despite a 139% increase in shootings and other massive increases in crime in NYC, DA (stands for something else, in my opinion) Vance can only spare time to attack Trump like a good little dummocrap. He is a despicable waste of a salary and a moron.
