Pres. Trump more popular by 5-point margin. Hillary Clinton's favorability rating remains at an all-time low 36 percent, according to a new Gallup poll. The poll, which was based on telephone interviews September 4-12, found that the former secretary of state's favorability is unchanged from November 2017. Sixty percent of respondents had an unfavorable opinion of Clinton, and four percent had no opinion. The polling firm has measured Clinton’s favorability going all the way back to 1992. Her 36-percent favorability rating is down seven percentage points from where it stood on the eve of the 2016 election.

Immigration, impeachment, trade and a full-bore effort to portray Democrats as hard-line leftists in thrall to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — that’s the recipe for success for the GOP in the midterm elections, according to a new poll obtained exclusively by The Hill. Those are the issues that can shift voters nationwide and shore up Republicans in endangered GOP districts, the poll suggests. But the survey will be controversial for two reasons. First, its findings suggest that the GOP’s best chances for keeping the House in November lie in stoking hot issues even further. Second, it was commissioned...

Republican Rep. Dave Brat is trailing Democrat Abigail Spanberger by five points in a Virginia district that hasn't sent a Democrat to the House in more than 45 years, according to a new poll. Spanberger has the support of 47 percent of potential voters, compared to Brat's 42 percent, according to a Monmouth University survey released Tuesday. Spangberger's lead is just outside the poll's margin of error, which is 4.9 percentage points. Virginia's 7th Congressional District used to be solidly red, but courts forced the state to redraw it shortly after Brat was elected in 2014 following a shocking GOP...

The Democratic Party’s advantage among American women suffered a six percent swing over the past year, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. Women are still more likely to view the Democrats favorably than they are Republicans, but the difference has contracted. A year ago, 35 percent of women said they viewed Republicans favorably. Democrats had a 14 point advantage, with 49 percent viewing the party favorably. In the latest poll, the GOP favorability rating rose to 40 percent. The Democrat favorability fell by one point. That leaves Democrats with just an 8 point advantage.Democrats have completely lost their advantage...

Given the speed at which Trump-era news cycles move, I should stress that I’m writing this at 5:30 p.m. ET. By the time you read it, eight to 10 different major news stories might have broken that’ll affect the midterms dramatically one way or another. And 2018 being what it is, they’re apt to be off-the-wall crazy. Michael Avenatti might prove that Kavanaugh has spent the last 30 years secretly moonlighting as a pimp. Trump might fire Rod Rosenstein and then nominate him to the Supreme Court in lieu of Kavanaugh. Jeff Sessions might get caught smoking crack. The only...

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Forty-five percent of Americans now have a favorable view of the Republican Party, a nine-point gain from last September's 36%. It is the party's most positive image since it registered 47% in January 2011, shortly after taking control of the House in the 2010 midterm elections. Forty-four percent give the Democratic Party a favorable rating. The parity in Republicans' and Democrats' favorable ratings marks a change from what has generally been the case since Barack Obama's election as president in November 2008. Republicans have usually been rated less positively than Democrats over this time, with the Republican...

A new poll shows Democratic U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez trailing Republican challenger Bob Hugin by 10 percentage points in a battleground South Jersey congressional district that Democrats are hoping to turn blue. On the surface, that might not seem terribly troubling for Menendez, who draws 36 percent to Hugin's 46 percent of voters in the 2nd congressional district, according to the Stockton University survey released Wednesday. The district -- which includes all of Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland counties, including parts of four other counties -- went for Republican Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. And Republican Frank LoBiondo...

“We’re doing a great job,” said President Trump yesterday in a surprise endorsement of his own success. “The poll numbers are through the roof. Our poll numbers are great. And guess what? Nobody is going to come close to beating me in 2020 because of what we’ve done.” Though Trump can always be counted on to testify to his unblemished record of winning, it was odd he chose to focus on poll numbers right at the moment, because one place they are not going is “through the roof.” In fact, Trump’s numbers are dropping to near the lowest point of...

Election season is upon us again, two years after one of the wildest roller coaster political campaigns in recent memory. This time it’s Congress on the ballot, not Donald Trump versus Hillary Clinton. Yet President Trump is still on the ballot – his agenda, his policies, his future. If Democrats win the House, we can expect Trump’s economic plans to be put on hold. Aside from the unlikely prospect of impeachment, Democrats will use every congressional committee under their control to investigate the president and his officials. Endless hearings, subpoenas and media coverage will have the Trump administration spending every...
