Norman Lear continues to defy convention about career longevity and age. The TV icon, who today celebrates his 96th birthday, and his Act III production company have signed a two-year first look deal with Sony Pictures TV. The pact includes the option to re-imagine titles from Lear’s extensive library including All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Maude and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, among others. “I couldn’t be prouder and more excited about joining Sony Pictures Television, who has the guts to go with a kid,” Lear quipped. Sony Pictures TV, which owns the Norman Lear library, has been...

During an exclusive interview with The Hill’s new TV show “Rising,” which aired on Wednesday, Reiner addressed the controversy surrounding actor Robert De Niro’s “F---Trump” speech during the Tony Awards on Sunday. De Niro called the president a “f---ing idiot” and a “f---ing fool,” which was met with a standing ovation. “You’re helping Trump by saying ‘F--- Trump,’ because he can say 'look at these people, these elitists,' ” Reiner told...

[Norman Lear wryly titled his memoir Even This I Get to Experience (out Oct. 14, Penguin) as a wink to his belief that even the bad times in his life were worthwhile because they made the living interesting. And over the course of 92 years, Lear has led as interesting a life as anyone in Hollywood. Born in 1922 in Connecticut, Lear lived with relatives for a time while his father spent three years in jail from 1931 to 1934 for a dodgy get-rich-quick scheme...] [All in the Family: Season 2 Carroll O'Connor's insecurities and fears drove him to great...

Jean Stapleton, a born-and-bred New Yorker immortalized in pop culture as the iconic Edith Bunker, died Friday in her Manhattan home at the age of 90. snipToday’s Queens is arguably America’s most diverse county. snipBut what of “All in the Family” creator Norman Lear? Well, according to the ZIP code listed on his political contributions, Lear lives in the Brentwood hills of Los Angeles — ZIP code 90049, to be exact. That neighborhood’s population? It’s 84 percent white, 1.4 percent black, 8.7 percent Asian, with the remainder “other” and multiracial. That almost looks like Archie Bunker’s dream spot.

Jean Stapleton, an actress whose portrayal of a slow-witted, big-hearted and submissive — up to a point — housewife on the groundbreaking series “All in the Family” made her, along with Mary Tyler Moore and Bea Arthur, one of the foremost women in television comedy in the 1970s, died Friday at her home in New York City. PC would prevent something like it from getting on the air today. Norman Lear transferred the British show "Till Death Do Us Part" very accurately - same characters with different names. The former had started airing in the U.K. in 1965. Nixon can be heard discussing the show on one of the Watergate tapes. T-shirts, buttons, and bumper stickers showing O'Connor's image and promoting "Archie Bunker for President" appeared at the time of the 1972 presidential election. Archie Bunker received votes as a write-in candidate.

The inlaws would like a word to help us define our relationships. Is there a name for the relationship the parents have to each other? We are more like sisters than inlaws. Explaining the marriages makes your brain explode so we'd like to find a short name to tell the story more succinctly. My daughter is her brother's cousin in-law. My son is his sister's cousin in-law. My daughter's mother in law is her brother's aunt. My son's mother in-law is his sister's aunt.

President Clinton is a big fan of "24" even though "an uber right-wing guy" produces the Emmy-winning political thriller. Clinton told TV advertisers Friday that his favorite show is the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy," and he appreciates "Boston Legal" for the dynamic between William Shatner and James Spader. "It's something to behold," he said. As for "24," which was co-created by noted Republican Joel Surnow, Clinton said he enjoys the fact that conservatives and liberals alike can be the bad guys in the show. "They're trying to be fair," Clinton said. His other must-see TV shows include "All in the...

Probably over now unless they're continuing it today on the MLKing holiday but hope you were able to catch this. Great show--writing, acting, etc. Yeah, a bunch of libs put it together and they portrayed a traditionalist/ conservative as an ignorant bigot while liberal Mike was a college student, but whaddaya expect. Still entertaining. So many phrases and lines pop into one's head: Stifle; Meathead; Dingbat; lil' girl; ya figured that out, hah?; Edith, get me a beer, hah?; You're a pip, etc. More than a few dramatic moments mixed in with the comedy. What other comedy show ends an...

Her nomination is a joke. A bad joke: (via WaPo) The Bush administration is seeking to appoint a lawyer with little immigration or customs experience to head the troubled law enforcement agency that handles those issues, prompting sharp criticism from some employee groups, immigration advocates and homeland security experts. Julie Myers is 36 years old, a lawyer and a political appointee to the Bush administration with limited executive experience. Yet, she is slated to become head of one of the nation's most critical security-related agencies, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Myers appointment, in the wake of FEMA's disastrous handling of the Katrina Hurricane and the resignation of its chief, Michael Brown, has people from both sides of the political aisle raising hackles. "The Bush administration has barely rebounded from the resignation of horse show organizer Michael ‘Heck...
