  • Trump Asked Kneeling NFL Players Who To Pardon Next And People Are Like 'Issa Trap!' (BET)

    BET ^ | Jun 8, 2018 (stale by a day) | Rachel Herron
In a bizarre turn of events, President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday he wants to ask NFL players who knelt during the national anthem to suggest more people for him to pardon. Before heading to the G-7 summit in Canada, Trump addressed reporters outside the White House. When the topic of pardons arose, Trump surprised many by suggesting he'd take suggestions on who to pardon next from the same NFL players he bashed. AFTER SAYING NO ONE SHOULD REMAIN IN THE LOCKER ROOMS DURING THE PLAYING OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM, TRUMP INVITED PLAYERS TO GIVE HIM SUGGESTIONS FOR PARDONS...

Three years ago, I made a commitment to watch only television shows that featured Black actors, writers, and directors. More on that, but first you need to know my backstory. Saved by the Bell was my favorite television show as a teenager, and Pretty in Pink one of my favorite movies. Although, it was probably Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s “If You Leave” on the film’s soundtrack that made me like it more than I might have otherwise. Saved by the Bell’s Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) was definitely my teenage heartthrob. The favorite part of my after-school routine was watching...

Gaining international recognition is the first step in securing global reparations for the descendants of African slaves. Venezuela is joining the Caribbean Community (Caricom) in the fight for global slavery reparations, discussing appropriate compensation for centuries of injustice. During a speech entitled 'Reparations of Resistance to Action,' Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza urged Latin America and colonizing countries to assume responsibility for past wrongs which affected Africans and their ancestors around the world. The Venezuelan government is working to guarantee that the social rights of residents of African descent are respected, and officials have opened the floor to dialogue for...

President Trump said Friday that he is considering a posthumous pardon to boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who was convicted of dodging conscription during the Vietnam War. “I am thinking about Muhammad Ali,” Trump told reporters at the White House shortly before departing to the Group of Seven nations summit in Quebec City. Ali – who died in 2016 — refused to fight in the war when the government tried to conscript him in 1967, citing his religious beliefs and opposition to the US involvement in the conflict. He was stripped of his heavyweight title and charged with draft evasion. A...
  • Voters Think Young Blacks Doing Better Under Trump Than Obama

Voters feel young black Americans are better off under President Trump than they were under Barack Obama, the nation’s first black president. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey shows that 32% of Likely U.S. Voters believe life for young black Americans has gotten better since Trump’s election. Slightly more (36%) say life for these Americans has gotten worse, while 26% think it has stayed about the same. (To see survey question wording, click here.) But in March 2014, just 16% said life for young black Americans had gotten better since Obama’s election five-and-a-half years earlier. By July...

You’ve heard about the black card, right? Not the one from Visa or American Express. This one is much more valuable. There are entire organizations that have been built upon it. And individuals have used it to acquire both wealth and influence. If this sounds like something you might wish to own, you should know that there is only one way you can get your hands on it: you have to be born with black skin. That’s the only requirement. Really. You can be poor, middle class, or rich—it doesn't matter. The black card will still confer upon you an...
  • Three bodies found in home of alleged kidnapper after he is pulled over for a broken taillight

Authorities have found three bodies in the home of a Massachusetts man accused of kidnapping a woman and resisting arrest. Springfield police pulled over 40-year-old Stewart Weldon for a broken tail light on Sunday, according to a police report. A distraught woman inside the car begged police to save her, telling officers “he’s going to kill me,” the report said. Police arrested Mr Weldon on charges of kidnapping, threat to commit a crime, and carrying a dangerous weapon, among others – all before investigators found three more bodies in the home where he reportedly lived.
  • How Republicans Win Back The Black Vote

    06/01/2018 11:41:03 AM PDT · by Liberty7732 · 37 replies
The perennial question posed during every election season is: How can Republicans win back the black vote? As a retired Army lieutenant colonel and chairman of the National Black Republican Association, I can tell you there are clear steps to take. But before we can get to solving the problem, it is necessary to first understand the root cause. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the Republican Party has never turned its back on black Americans. It continuously conducts black voter engagement, as is done for all identifiable groups, including Hispanics, rural Americans, the middle-class in “fly-over country,” young voters and women....

The unemployment rate for black workers hit new record lows in May, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. Black unemployment fell sharply to 5.9 percent, beating out the 6.6 percent record low that was set a month earlier. The unemployment rate for Hispanic workers hit a record low in April, at 4.8 percent, but it rose slightly to 4.9 percent in May. The total unemployment rate for white workers dropped from 3.6 percent to 3.5 percent. President Trump has cheered the record low unemployment rates seen for black workers on his watch. He and his supporters have...
  • On Starbucks: Looking Beyond Implicit Bias Training to Systemic Solutions

Race Forward president Glenn Harris on why Starbucks’ mandatory anti-bias training is a good start, but far from a cure for what ails America. Today (May 29), Starbucks is closing more than 8,000 stores for an afternoon while nearly 175,000 employees undergo training meant to address demonstrated racial bias. But what follows the training is even more important. The arrest of Donte Robinson and Rashon Nelson for simply existing as Black men at one of the coffee retailer’s Philadelphia locations last month is far from an isolated incident. Rather, the display of racism that drove Starbucks to respond is emblematic...

Facts have a notorious racial bias. The Rev. Jerrod Moultrie, pastor of Oakgrove Missionary Baptist Church in Fairmont, was stopped April 12 in Timmonsville, S.C., by police Officer Chris Miles for not using a turn signal while making a left turn. At 3:53 a.m. on April 13, Moultrie posted on Facebook, “Tonight I was racially profiled by Timmonsville officer cause I was driving a Mercedes Benz and going home in a nice neighborhood. But you know tomorrow they will hear from me.” In his Facebook account of the traffic stop Moultrie, who also is president of the Timmonsville NAACP chapter,...

It's hard to think of a more volatile mix: Four young black males from Baltimore City, accused in the death of a white female police officer in Baltimore County. Authorities say three of the teenagers were breaking into homes when the fourth ran the officer over in a stolen Jeep. Predictably enough, social media, call-in radio and other forums blew up. A sampling from the Baltimore County Police & Fire Facebook page: "I was hoping they'd kill him during apprehension. What a waste of life. He's currently breathing air some decent person could be breathing." "I personally am tired of...

Cynthia Nixon (aka Miranda from Sex and the City) caught a lot of heat for suggesting that decriminalizing weed might be a form of reparations for Black people in New York. This was probably not the best move she could have made in her gubernatorial run, but she later clarified her point. “I’m not going to use that word anymore,” Nixon told the New York Post. “We have to make sure that the communities that have been most devastated by the war on drugs are prioritized for small business loans and other kinds of support. Obviously it would in no...

T.I. took to Instagram to shockingly call Donald Trump ‘the face of racism’ after the president said he was not apologizing for America or its history during a speech at the U.S. Naval Academy on May 25. T.I., 37, made it known that he wasn’t on the Trump Train when he took to Instagram on May 26 to totally slam President Donald Trump, 71, and his speech about America at the 2018 commencement for the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. “And now a word from the face of racism…,” T.I.’s caption read for a post that included a screenshot...

The leader of the New York arm of the Black Lives Matter movement is calling out New York gubernatorial candidate and actress/activist Cynthia Nixon for her comments on legalizing marijuana over the weekend, in which she said that the industry could provide a form of “reparations” for communities of color. While he supports cannabis legalization, Black Lives Matter of Greater New York president Hawk Newsome told the Times Union on Monday that candidates for office should not use words like “reparations” lightly, a topic on which there is a growing body of serious scholarship. “Cynthia Nixon’s comments that the legalization...

My father is Black, and my mother is Puerto Rican. As a biracial woman, I'm very familiar with questions like, "What are you?" "But what do you consider yourself?" and insinuations of "But is she really Black?" And as much as I wish I could say this type of thinking was unique to my childhood or some less-progressive era long ago, it's something I still deal with today. Yup, in 2018. For some people, regardless of their race (and sometimes even my own friends and family) it's apparently very difficult to understand the concept that a person can proudly embrace...

TIME magazine recently honored Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. According to a press release about the honor, “The list, now in its fifteenth year, recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals.” Waters said that she was shocked and surprised by the recognition and that she “felt very, very blessed” to receive the honor. In a commentary about the award, “Black-ish” actor Yara Shahidi wrote that, “Congresswoman Maxine Waters of the 43rd District of California, a.k.a. • 'White people can be exhausting': How black dignity perseveres in a world made for whiteness (vomit)

White people can be exhausting. “It’s work to be the only person of color in an organization, bearing the weight of all your white co-workers’ questions about Blackness. “It’s work to always be hypervisible because of your skin — easily identified as being present or absent — but for your needs to be completely invisible to those around you. “It’s work to do the emotional labor of pointing out problematic racist thinking, policies, action and statements while desperately trying to avoid bitterness and cynicism. “Quite frankly, the work isn’t just tedious. It can be dangerous for Black women to attempt...
