Democrats in House of Reps. joined J Street in supporting Obama administration's attempt to force Israel into making painful concessions Seventy-four Democrats in the House of Representatives have joined the dovish J Street organization in supporting the Obama administration's attempt to force Israel into making painful concessions to the Palestinian Authority. “In our view, support for a two-state resolution is inseparable from such support for Israel, its special relationship with the United States, and its very survival as a democratic homeland for the Jewish people,” the letter said. Seven Jewish members signed the letter, including Reps. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), John...

RALEIGH -- In an odd political bedfellows moment, three North Carolina congressmen - two progressive Democrats and one religious-right Republican - joined forces Monday to urge the Obama administration to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan. At an anti-war town hall meeting in the Legislative Building, Republican U.S. Rep. Walter Jones and Democratic U.S. Reps.David Price and Brad Miller sought to keep the pressure on the administration to end the American combat operations by the middle of 2013. "Our concern is that too many times, administrations will say that the date for coming home is a year from now, 18 months...

Rep. Brad Miller, who has all but said he is challenging fellow Rep. David Price in next year’s Democratic primary in North Carolina, is continuing to walk a fine rhetorical line when it comes to what he plans to do in 2012. Two court cases are challenging the new lines, and Miller told Roll Call last Thursday he is standing “shoulder to shoulder” with the Democrats in the delegation in support of them. But he also has been campaigning in the new 4th and admits as much. “I am the working the district as drawn by the Legislature — [the...

In an action he acknowledged was highly unusual, the chairman of a congressional subcommittee personally intervened to restore the job of a top physician in the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Health System.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 1 – after a lot of talk by President Barack Obama about transparency in his administration – I snuck into and attended a private meeting held by Obama's deputy secretary of the US Department of the Treasury, Neal Wolin, and Democratic Rep. Brad Miller, who represents North Carolina's 13th congressional district. Also at the meeting were state and federal banking officials, area elected officials and a select group of other handpicked attendees. It was an interesting meeting – however, once my presence was discovered, it clearly agitated many federal and congressional officials, as well...

There's no doubt that Dr. Chacko had her supporters. Chief among them was Dr. Rashmikant Shah. Still after hearing all the testimony, the investigative board determined that Dr. Chacko needed to be removed. Dr. Chacko challenged the results and at some point, Dr. Chacko hired an attorney. The attorney saw that the investigative board wasn't conducted properly and the results were thrown out. As such, in May, another board, Summary Board for a Probationary Employee, was convened by the Pittsburgh VA in order to again try and remove Dr. Anna Chacko. Dr. Chacko, who often bragged about having political connections,...

It was Republican Sen. Richard Burr versus the Democratic congressman Tuesday night as they fielded questions on North Carolina television in a lively discussion about national health care. Burr, though agreeing that the current health-care system is "unsustainable," said the proposals by President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats would cost too much, raise too many taxes and impose too many regulations. "I don't want the government handling any more," Burr said in agreeing with one caller who said the federal government had mismanaged too many programs in the past. But Burr of Winston-Salem was a lonely voice on the one-hour...

Democracy yelled this month. But some Democrats in Congress didn't want to hear it. With Congress recessed, opponents of the Democrat health-care proposals flooded streets and assembly halls. At times, they've been loud, unruly and confrontational. That has made some Democrats uncomfortable. Several Democratic members of Congress from North Carolina have declined to appear at meetings and take questions from the public. Among them is Rep. Brad Miller, a Raleigh Democrat who represents the 13th District, which stretches to Greensboro. Miller said Friday that he hasn't held a town-hall style meeting in four years, partly because they were sparsely attended....

Over 680 Patriots met once again, outside Congressman Brad Miller's Raleigh office on Friday, August 7th, to protest against ObamaCare. Nine conservatives from the 13th District were allowed to meet with Miller, and they did not leave happy. They felt that Miller was arrogant, "condescending", and even told them, "I don't care if you trust me." According to one constituent, after provided with the facts, Miller tells them it's all "belligerent" and "internet rhetoric", he's seen all the internet hate speech, and he knows what we're all about. Oh really, Mr. Miller?Another meeting participant said this, "I personally asked Brad...

Just heard Brad Miller, NC Congressman has decided to not hold town hall meetings. I just called his office and they confirmed he was not holding any meetings. I asked if he was 'chicken shit', and they terminated the call. So I went over the top just a little . . . my bad. Others in NC should call his office and maybe be a little nicer than I was, but send the same message. His Raleigh office number is (919) 836-1313. Fire away!

Rep. Brad Miller (D-NC) will not be hosting any town hall events this August -- instead, he's making himself available to constituents for one-on-one meetings about health care reform -- and at least part of the reason is this: His offices have received threatening phone calls, including at least one direct threat against his life.... "The call to the D.C. office was, 'Miller could lose his life over this,'" said Canipe. "Our staffer took it so seriously, he confirmed what the guy was saying. He said, 'Sir is that a threat?' and at that time our staffer was getting the...

Rep. "We had no town hall events scheduled for the August recess anyway, but in light of everything that's happened -- we have received a threatening phone call in the D.C. office, there have been calls to the Raleigh office," said Miller communications director LuAnn Canipe,...

After a successful rally on April 15, all regional patriots are called for a follow-up on Saturday, July 25, 7:00 PM at the old Washington Mills bridge in Mayodan (intersection of NC 135 and business US 220). The event’s patriotic theme is Liberty: Provide, Protect, Preserve. “We all need to unite against government gone out of control,” said Wayne Sexton, chairman of the Rockingham County Republican Party. “There must be a way to hold our government accountable. This is a place to start; let’s come together to make our voices heard.” The brief rally will feature candidates for upcoming elections...

U.S. Rep. Brad Miller is close to making perhaps the most difficult choice of his political career -- whether to challenge one of the most famous names in American politics. Miller, a three-term Democrat, has stepped up his exploratory effort in recent days as he nears a self-imposed deadline of July 1 to decide whether to take on Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole in 2008. Miller, a Raleigh attorney, met over the weekend with members of the N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers -- some of Miller's key financial backers -- at their annual conference in Sunset Beach. Last week, Miller and...

By MIKE BAKER, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 39 minutes ago U.S. Rep. Brad Miller (news, bio, voting record) chuckled through most of the first debate with his Republican challenger, who led a tense and often awkward discussion about sex-related issues Tuesday. Vernon Robinson, who has run a series of brash advertisements about the two-term Democratic congressman, charged that Miller wants to import homosexuals to the United States and supported scientific studies that would pay teenage girls to watch pornography. "Those are San Francisco values, not North Carolina values," said Robinson, repeating a common theme of his campaign. A bemused Miller...
