Nearly three-quarters of the Israeli public oppose a retaliatory strike on Iran for its massive missile attack on the country if such action would harm Israel’s security alliance with its allies, according to a poll published Tuesday. The Hebrew University survey also found that over half the public believes Israel “respond[s] positively” to the military and political demands of allies. Israel has vowed to retaliate after Iran overnight Saturday fired over 300 missiles and drones at the country. Almost all were intercepted before they reached the country as the United States led a coordinated air defense shield that involved Israeli,...

There was trouble at a concert at Warsaw’s National Philharmonic Hall celebrating Antoni Wit’s 80th birthday and 60 years of service to music in Poland. Climate activists mounted the stage shouting ‘This is an alarm. Our world is burning. We are the last generation that can stop the climate catastrophe. We demand radical investments in public transport.’ Wit, still conducting, grabbed a ‘Last Generation’ banner from a young woman before they were ejected. Deeply disturbed by the accounting of American deceit in Vietnam, he approached The New York Times. The disclosures that followed rocked the nation. Daniel Ellsberg, a military analyst who after experiencing a sobbing antiwar epiphany on a bathroom floor made the momentous decision in 1971 to disclose a secret history of American lies and deceit in Vietnam, what came to be known as the Pentagon Papers, died on Friday at his home in Kensington, Calif. He was 92. The cause was pancreatic cancer, his wife and children said in a statement.

When Joshua Diemert began his employment with the City of Seattle in 2013, he was looking forward to a fresh start. But as time passed, he began to dread going to work. Tensions were running high in the office. At one point, a colleague told others they should “get a guy to swing by when Josh is in the restroom and beat him bloody.” He watched coworkers reject white applicants to City programs because, as one colleague told him, those applicants benefited from “white privilege.” The problems started when Joshua objected to mandatory training and handouts from the City’s Race...

Gordon Moore, the tech pioneer and co-founder of Intel, has died at age 94, Intel and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced Friday. Moore died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family. Moore was best-known for his famous observation known as Moore's Law. In 1965, Moore made the observation that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit would double every year. Moore's prediction proved to be correct, and the idea of faster, smaller, and cheaper chip technology is still the driving force behind Silicon Valley's mission to this day. “Gordon Moore defined the technology industry through his...

But that’s only half the story, according to Stuart Wells, executive director of the Portland Audubon chapter. “What's not as commonly known is that he was also a slave trader and was staunchly against any abolitionist movements,” Wells said. “He dug up Native American graves and sold their skulls to folks that were trying to show that there was a difference in the skull structure of Indigenous people...

    CareerNuts India ^ | July 20, 2021 | Abhishek Sareen
In a country like India, we are highly driven by herd mentality. Whenever we see some success in a particular career, we tend to get attracted in masses towards it. Engineering is one such profession. India produces about 150,000 engineers per year, and very few of them eventually get engineering-related jobs. According to an Employability Survey done in 2019, 80% of Indian engineers are not fit for jobs. In the early 1990s, India was going through liberalization that lead to a boom in manufacturing. This created a lot of new jobs and engineering as a career became popular. We then...

    1) This is just some random street in a busy shopping area in December in Dublin, Ireland. 2) These are average, randomly appearing Dublin women and girls. Of the dozens, I only saw 1 overweight woman. Many looked like models. 3) Impeccable sense of style, perfect hair, great skin unembellished by pock-marked drug usage signs, absence of tattoos on face/neck, no trashy clothes. 4) No weird purple haired trannies, no homeless people, no criminals, everyone in a good mood. Why such a contrast with our big cities on the west coast? What went wrong here? What is your experience elsewhere...
