Archaeologists in England announced Tuesday they uncovered a medieval burial site so historically significant they’ve termed it “an archaeologist’s dream.” The Museum of London Archaeology team stumbled upon the remains of a woman buried between 630 and 670 AD near the village of Harpole in Northamptonshire, according to The Guardian. Buried alongside her was an intricate necklace made of gold, garnets and various other semi-precious stones. The necklace is reportedly the richest of its kind ever unveiled in Great Britain, and features an unprecedented level of craftsmanship for its period. The grave also contained a large, intricately adorned cross, as...

On Dec. 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan bombed the U.S. Pacific Fleet which was stationed in Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. In addressing Congress the next day, President Roosevelt called it “a date which will live in infamy.” But Roosevelt’s reputation should live in infamy too. The line that Roosevelt enthusiasts and left-wing historians have peddled for so many years is that the attack was a complete surprise. Here’s a sample from The American Pageant, a typical left-wing American history textbook widely used in American high schools: Officials in Washington, having “cracked” the top-secret code of...

National Review Online: Despite The Senator's Policies, He Is Better Than Democratic Alternative John McCain is not a conservative, but I will vote for him anyway. Meanwhile, Senator Barack Obama has been named the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate by National Journal. Senator Hillary Clinton can't be far behind. Against them, Senator McCain would seem the obvious choice for conservatives. But some of them think a term or two in the political wilderness would be beneficial. Conservatives have been here before. As National Review said in 1972, "There are those, including some of our colleagues, who believe that...

Why I Will Vote for McCain Conservative resolve (mine, not his). By Daniel Oliver John McCain is not a conservative, but I will vote for him anyway. After all, in 1952, conservatives, grumbling that Ohio senator Robert “Mr. Republican” Taft had not been nominated, voted for Eisenhower because he was clearly the better alternative to Adlai Stevenson. And they voted for Ike again over Stevenson in 1956. In 1971, a Who’s Who of conservatives, including the senior editors of National Review, suspended their support of President Nixon because of both his domestic-policy failures and his tendencies in foreign policy. In...
