A controversial painting depicting police officers as pigs has been permanently removed from the Capitol complex. The office of Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., — a former sheriff who officially appealed to the Architect of the Capitol that the painting be removed — confirmed to the Washington Examiner that it was taken down for good on Tuesday. The painting, done by a black Missouri teenager, was one of hundreds of winners of the Congressional Art Competition. Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., hung it in the tunnel leading from the Cannon building to the Capitol complex.

Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Auburn, was treated for a subdural hematoma, apparently due to a minor head injury, after being admitted to a Washington, D.C., hospital on Wednesday. His office said Reichert was admitted to George Washington University Hospital after feeling ill. Following an evaluation, doctors performed a procedure to treat a chronic subdural hematoma — collection of blood on the surface of the brain — that was likely the result of a minor head injury. The procedure was successful, and Reichert is expected to make a complete recovery, his office said. He's expected to be discharged in a few days.

House Democrats were surprised at the number of Republican votes they won on the razor close climate change vote, which allowed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to let a few more Democrats cast their own no votes. Bucking a Democratic trend, Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert has won re-election in Washington's 8th Congressional District, defeating two-time challenger Darcy Burner. With almost 80 percent of the expected vote counted from Tuesday's election, Reichert's lead was nearing 8,000 votes Friday. Roughly 270,000 votes have been tallied. Neither side had claimed victory or conceded Friday night.
