Imagine this: You head to Florida to look after a sick family member, only to come back and find squatters have broken into your house, sold all your belongings, and now, unbelievably, are legally considered “tenants.” So now you’re stuck shelling out for a lawyer to get them out. It sounds like a wild story, doesn’t it? But, shockingly, this is the reality for a woman from Texas who left her home to care for her sick mother. The New York Post: Squatters turned a Texas woman’s home into a “drug den” and sold her possessions at a yard sale...
  • 'The district's largest classroom': Why Prosper ISD is proposing a $94 million football stadium to voters

    WFAA (DFW) ^ | 09/27/2023 | Paul Livengood
There's no doubt: Texas loves its football. So, on the surface, a bond election including a $94 million price tag for a second high school stadium isn't entirely shocking to read, given the culture of the Lone Star State. Yes, the price tag would make it the "most expensive in Texas history." That's true. But according to district spokesperson Rachel Trotter, there is much more to the story than "building a new football stadium." Trotter told WFAA over the phone this is not just a football stadium, but rather "the district's largest classroom." Trotter noted there is numerous other benefits...

Dr. Pedro Piedra, a professor of molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, the number is not enough to have significant herd effect. The vaccination data covers the 2022-23 school year, and shows that the rates for children in North Texas have not yet recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a significant decline in the number of children vaccinated against preventable disease like measles, chickenpox, polio, and and more. Before the COVID pandemic, in October 2019, about 95.9% of kindergartners in the Fort Worth district had received the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination. The pandemic disrupted access...

    Texas Scorecard ^ | February 7, 2022 | Erin Anderson
People who serve on city boards in Denton [greater Dallas/Fort Worth] are no longer required to be U.S. citizens—or even lawful residents. Denton City Council voted late last month to remove a requirement for residents serving on city boards and commissions to be registered voters, allowing noncitizens to participate. The city said the purpose was to include the highest number of diverse members. Noncitizens—regardless of immigration status—can now serve on all city boards, commissions, and committees except for the Public Utility Board (requirements for that board are set in the city charter, so a change must be approved by voters)....

Ok, last run of the night to DFW around 9:45 PM last night. I work as a shuttle driver from a hotel in the DFW airport area. I have been working there since July, since being called called back after being furloughed back in April. Pick up a no more 30 year old white guy with no luggage, except a computer case, go to the next call, and it is a white couple, and then I get a call for another pick up, and it is a white guy 35 and a 3 year old boy. So I go back...

A leading Democratic candidate in a closely watched House race brushed off looting and arson that occurred during nationwide unrest during protests about racism and police brutality sparked by the death of George Floyd. “What the hell you got snipers on the roof for in a peaceful march? Even if people loot, so what? Burn it to the ground, you know, if that’s what it’s going to take to fix our nation,” retired Air Force Col. Kim Olson said during a live digital event on Tuesday, shown in a clip obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The defense industry is one of few manufacturing sectors in North Texas not reeling from the impact of COVID-19. One of the area's largest employers, Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT), hired 166 people in Dallas-Fort Worth during the past two weeks and is advertising for roughly 700 more open positions in the area, said company spokesperson Ken Ross. The company builds missile products and fighter jets locally. The additions are part of a broader push by Lockheed Martin to beef up its employee base around the country. The Bethesda, Maryland-based defense contractor said last week it has hired close to...

I came back from a flight last night around midnight at Terminal A gate 15 and was surprised by all the homeless sleeping in the area around baggage claim and in the hallways. I guess they take the DART train to the A terminal and sleep the night, and are rounded out in the morning. This situation makes Dallas county and the DFW airport look bad at their ineptness to deal with homelessness. I heard about this situation about 2 weeks ago and called Fox affiliate KDFW channel 4 and they brushed it off. I should have taken video but...

That’s probably not how you’re supposed to refuel planes. A fuel truck struck and damaged two aircraft at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Monday morning, prompting an investigation into the cause of the incident. The truck, believed to be operating for Allied Aviation, was filmed first colliding with the wing of one American Eagle jet, and then crashing into the wing of a second American Eagle jet, before coming to an abrupt stop.

A transgender woman from Florida went missing a week ago during a layover at DFW International Airport, and her family is asking for help finding her. Pauline del Mundo, 59, was passing through DFW Airport on Sept. 14 on her way from Tampa to Cozumel, Mexico, but never took her connecting flight on American Airlines. In 71 days, American Airlines will retire its remaining MD-80 aircraft. At one point, the MD-80s, also known as the Super 80 and nicknamed the "Mad Dog," made up more than half of AA's fleet. American Airlines called the aircraft the "workhorse of the airline's fleet throughout the 1980s and beyond." But decades since they first took flight, the planes tend to burn more fuel and require more maintenance than the Airbus aircraft and Boeing 737s that have replaced them. Monday, American Airlines released the schedule for their last passenger flights, which will take place on Sept. 3 and Sept....

Since then, they’ve admitted to being willing to smuggle anything on board a commercial airline for money including drugs, weapons and plastic explosives. The nine employees included a baggage scanner, baggage handler and other employees who could monitor bags being placed on and off Spirit Airlines and Envoy Air aircrafts. A tenth employee involved in the ring is a fugitive.
