A 102-year-old brand with South Carolina roots is front and center in a federal food fight. Earlier this year, Falfurrias Capital Partners, a Charlotte-based private equity firm founded by former Bank of America chairman and CEO Hugh McColl Jr. and two other investors, acquired The C.F. Sauer Company of Richmond, Va., a condiments manufacturer that produces Duke’s Mayonnaise. C.F. Sauer is now demanding that three Greenville area businesses stop their alleged infringement of the “Duke’s” brand name. In a lawsuit filed Oct. 4 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, Sauer alleges that Duke Sandwich Productions,...

---Image removed because it was a getty image--- Getty Images When The Dukes of Hazzard premiered on January 26, 1979, it was intended to be a temporary patch in CBS’s primetime schedule until The Incredible Hulk returned. Only nine episodes were ordered, and few executives at the network had any expectation that the series—about two amiable brothers at odds with the corrupt law enforcement of Hazzard County—would become both a ratings powerhouse and a merchandising bonanza. Check out some of these lesser-known facts about the Duke boys, their extended family, and the gravity-defying General Lee, which made their small-screen...

A Chicago Pastor is demanding George Washington’s name be removed from a city park because Washington was a slave owner. He’s also targeting a park named after Andrew Jackson....this is the natural progression of things — once you begin erasing historical monuments, there is no end. When it becomes wholly accepted to impose current values on historical figures and events, why bother with history at all?

A Chicago pastor has asked the Emanuel administration to remove the names of two presidents who owned slaves from parks on the South Side, saying the city should not honor slave owners in black communities. A bronze statue of George Washington on horseback stands at the corner of 51st and King Drive, at the northwest entrance to Washington Park. Bishop James Dukes, pastor of Liberation Christian Center, said he wants the statue gone, and he wants George Washington’s name removed from the park.

A New Jersey man picked a fight with his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, telling the defenseless toddler to put up his dukes before beating him to death. Zachary Tricoche, 24, of Pennsauken was arraigned Tuesday in Camden County Superior Court on murder charges after his pathetic attempt at a boxing match with little Jamil Baskerville Jr., who weighed a mere 29 pounds.Tricoche was then transferred to Camden County Jail, where he’s being held on $1 million cash bail. Just prior to the Saturday night attack, Tricoche had gotten into a heated argument with his girlfriend over food she had purchased that...

The hubbub over the Charleston, S.C., church shooting has, somewhat inexplicably, ended in a 30-year-old TV show about two backwoods brothers jumping a Dodge Charger over innumerable rivers being cancelled. That’s right, “The Dukes of Hazzard” is now being pulled off of TV stations because of the Confederate flag on the roof of the car. If you didn’t see this coming, don’t worry — neither did most sane people. Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy are certainly pretty sane, but they’ve got the kind of wit that drives liberals insane. The two of them predicted what was going to...

TV Land is getting SLAMMED for pulling the Dukes! It is amazing to see good people mobilize and give TV Land the criticism deserves. They will lose money over this.. and it's well deserved. When you go against your customers, like Mcdonalds did, prepare to lose millions and millions of dollars. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving network.

A week after Warner Bros. announced it would halt the production of all merchandise featuring the Confederate flag on General Lee, the iconic car from The Dukes of Hazzard, the show has inexplicably disappeared from TV Land’s lineup. WB announced the move as major retailers Walmart, Amazon, eBay, and Sears all introduced bans on the sale of Confederate flag merchandise in the wake of Dylann Roof’s Charleston, SC shooting rampage at a black church. “Warner Bros. Consumer Products has one licensee producing die-cast replicas and vehicle model kits featuring the General Lee with the confederate flag on its roof —...

The car was spotted at the 34th Precinct station house parked inside the lot authorized for police officers. The late model Dodge muscle car had orange paint and a Confederate flag on the roof, similar to the "General Lee" car in The Dukes of Hazzard TV show.

BESSEMER CITY, N.C., A North Carolina man who never says “hold the mayo” will be held for all eternity in a Duke’s Mayonnaise jar when he dies. Larry Clinton of Bessemer City has been searching for a suitable resting place for his cremated remains for over 20 years. Thanks to his daughter, the 67-year-old now has a custom-made Duke's jar that has a label bearing his name. Clinton’s daughter, Teresa Clinton-Edge, sent a letter the parent company of Duke’s to request a jar for her father’s remains. “She sent a very nice letter saying her father had always loved Duke’s...

Fear not, Dukes of Hazzard fans, no one is going to mess with the General Lee. After a forum post on HobbyTalk.com indicated that Tomy Toys, manufacturer of all official Dukes of Hazzard merchandise, would no longer produce scale models of the show's famous 1969 Dodge Charger with its Confederate battle flag displayed on the roof, Warner Brothers has issued a statement to the contrary. The original story reportedly came courtesy of an anonymous worker with Tomy Toys, who said the Stars and Bars livery would be excised from the models beginning on January 1, 2013. The news incited substantial...

I was prepared to really hate this movie. But I didn’t. I was ready to leave the theater with a big, cornbread-flavored chip on my shoulder, huffing about unfair representations of white Southerners. Instead, I left a little homesick. I was prepared to be saddened by what I was sure would be a blight on the good name of the Dukes of Hazzard County. Instead, I found myself once again marveling at the Hemi-charged flight of the General Lee. Perhaps it’s because my expectations were so low that I was able to enjoy this movie, but I think it was...

When I was 5 years old, all of my friends watched the television show "the Dukes of Hazzard." I wanted to watch it, too, but we weren't allowed to do that in my house because of the Confederate flag that was painted on the car in the show. At 5, I learned that the Confederate flag represented white domination of Black people. I learned that the KKK, the Aryan Nation, the skinheads, the American Nazi Party and 500 other extremist groups use this as their emblem. I learned to see the Confederate flag as the symbol of hate that it...

I have to admit the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie has a strong supporting cast. Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville will play the good old boys, Bo and Luke Duke. Willie Nelson will play Uncle Jesse. Burt Reynolds is the surprising, yet promising, choice for Boss Hogg. And, finally, Jessica Simpson will step off the set of her made-for-TV marriage and into some short shorts as the Pride of Hazzard County, Daisy Duke. Granted, most movies based on old shows pack as much punch as Newfound Glory singing Celine Dion, but, so far, this one's looking pretty good. Everything rests...

The crew has one goal in mind: to make this a high-speed, rally-racing, drift-driving, dirt and dust tour de force. IGN FilmForce visited the set last week, and we're gearing up to deliver you guys the...
