I have great respect for retired Navy Captain Mark Kelly’s service to this nation. I also admire the courage of Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Blaming the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others that took place on January 8, 2010, Sheriff Clarence Dupnick caused an uproar in Tucson when he said that the state was a mecca of prejudice and bigotry.

On Saturday evening Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik told reporters that the Tucson Safeway shooter had made previous threats. There are now accusations that Dupnik knew about the previous threats by leftwing pothead Jared Loughner and did nothing to protect the Tucson community from this homicidal young man. The Pima County Sheriff's Department released reports on Wednesday detailing contact with Arizona gunman Jared Loughner prior to Saturday's shooting. The reports, which date back to 2004, detail all personal contact Pima County deputies had with Loughner beginning on Sept. 23, 2004, when he was the victim of a reported assault. Loughner was later arrested as a juvenile for possession of alcohol on May 15, 2006, and on Sept. 10, 2007, he also received a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the police reports. At a time when the public needs leadership, Tucson and Pima County, Arizona supposed leaders are instead behaving like political animals in furthering their ego-centrist goals.

Sheriff Dupnik is insisting that Sharon Angle and Sarah Palin incited this shooting, while also admitting he has no evidence of Loughner's motive as yet. I just heard him say both to Geraldo Rivera on Fox. Dupnik has no evidence to support his "opinion" and Loughner is more likely a leftist than conservative. But isn't the sheriff's irresponsibility extending to jeopardizing the case and handing Loughner a variety of defenses?
